As part of our employee programming, we offer "matching gifts" to employee donations to eligible nonprofits. And throughout our currently ongoing "Month of Impact" at Humana, we are offering a double match to those employee donations! Sunder Iyer utilized the double match to help keep the Geeva Arts Festival alive here in Louisville when funding was short. Our CEO Tiffany Benjamin attended Leadership Kentucky, Inc. last week and will share insights and takeaways from her experience on our website. Thank you, Leadership Kentucky, for providing the opportunity to get to know the people we serve in our home state!
CEO @ Humana Foundation | Social Determinants of Health | Health Equity | Food Security and Nutrition | Mental Health Equity
Last week, I attended Leadership Kentucky, Inc. , a program that brings together leaders from across the state to address complex issues and explore Kentucky’s resources and opportunities. This program gave me the opportunity to meet with Kentucky's leaders and delve into vital topics such as the state’s economy, education, health and human services, law and justice and the environment. Engaging with fellow leaders and gaining new insights always re-energizes me to think differently about how we can help support our communities. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post about what I learned on the Humana Foundation website.

September is Hunger Action Month, a time to focus on combating food insecurity and its impact on our communities. For more than five years, we have partnered with San Antonio Food Bank to help with their efforts to battle food insecurity among older adults. In doing so, we have supported the expansion of their senior grocery program, which provides reliable access to nutritious foods for older adults in diverse and underserved communities. Inspiring work by our partners at Eshelman Innovation utilizing our Health Equity Innovation Fund to create equitable solutions around food insecurity! Hear from our own Chief Impact Officer Danielle Simone Neveles, MBA in this great video about the project:
“Food is the foundation to everything we do.” —Ashlie Thomas, CSM, LSSBB, gardener, advocate, tech entrepreneur, PowerUp partner Created by Eshelman Innovation with support from the Humana Foundation, PowerUp is an initiative that empowers communities historically underserved and underrepresented by the U.S. healthcare system. To address challenges around food insecurity in the Black community, PowerUp partnered with the country’s largest #HBCU, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Through the N.C. A&T Center of Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, PowerUp tapped faculty and student expertise for possible solutions. 💡 One bright idea came from Thomas, who has a master’s degree from NC A&T. She is developing TerraLink, a digital technology platform that uses AI to help fill the gaps between food production and distribution and health and nutrition education. “I want to see people have access to the foods they need, not just to survive but to thrive,” Thomas says. The #HumanaFoundation team recently huddled to speak with community leaders in South Florida to learn how we can more effectively engage Florida employees and better serve the diverse communities in Florida. We also visited "Senior Planet" Miami (operated by Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP), where we helped seniors navigate technology issues. We invite you to watch this inspiring video from our visit, which highlights both our and Humana's commitment to advancing the health equity needs of members, patients and communities in South Florida: 🎥 https://lnkd.in/ekG9HDmN
