HTC EVO 4G crippled to 30 FPS despite 1GHz Snapdragon

Looks like the champion foal in the Android stable will not be spared some teething problems. Users report on the Android coding forums that they have tested their HTC EVO 4G's graphics performance (both 2D and 3D OpenGL), and were being consistently showed 30 frames per second in menu scrolling and applications.

This is surprising, since weaker spec'd phones, such as the HTC Hero, have consistently exhibited close to 60 FPS, which is considered to be the norm for Android.

On the other hand, no one is reporting any unbearable hiccups while scrolling the menus, but if you look long and hard enough that might become a self esteem and value-for-money issue. HTC has been there with the Tilt and some other phones that were released with dysfunctional graphics acceleration, so they should address this quickly, if it turns out to be a firmware related cap.

The issue is very recent and still no official comment has been made by HTC or Sprint, so we'll keep an eye on the developments.
