Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S9 to get most of the initial Snapdragon 845 supply

This spring's Android flagship crop was in large part dictated by Samsung and its decision to hoard the entire initial Snapdragon 835 supply for the North American version of its Galaxy S8. As a result, LG decided to use the last-gen Snapdragon 821 in its G6 instead, while others, including HTC, Xiaomi, and Sony, had to release their devices later.

And it seems this tactic worked well for the Korean giant, which is now rumored to do the very same thing in 2018 with the Snapdragon 845 and its next flagship, the Galaxy S9. The information comes from a Weibo blogger with a pretty good track record, who claims Samsung and Qualcomm have already arranged the supply of next-gen flagship chipsets.

So just like last year, we can expect Samsung to once again stifle the competition in order to ensure it has enough units of its own handset. This should be pretty bad news for companies like LG, though we've previously heard rumors it's planning to pull the very same maneuver with its own LG G7.

As is usual, you should take this rumor with a grain of salt, though it makes quite a bit of sense: the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have so far sold 15% more than the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, making sales expectations for next year fairly high as well.

And if the information turns out to be correct, it probably means we should be expecting the Galaxy S9 to bring something major to the table, like the S8 did with the Infinity Display — in-screen fingerprint scanner, anyone?
