Samsung and AT&T officially announce the Solstice, to be available August 2

Samsung and AT&T have just announced their latest touchscreen-mounting player, the Samsung Solstice. Actually, a leak from about two days ago pretty much revealed all the important info about the device, including the price and the release date. However, as everything has now become official, it is our duty to say that the Samsung Solstice will be available at AT&T’s stores beginning August 2 at a two-year contract price of $99 after $50 mail-in rebate. Keep in mind you will have to subscribe for a messaging or data plan of $20 per month or more.

The Solstice looks really stylish with its 3-inch touch-sensitive screen on the front and nicely-patterned back. It runs on the manufacturer’s well-known TouchWiz user interface, delivering fast access to social networks like Facebook and MySpace via homescreen widgets. Taking snapshots with the built-in 2MP camera would not result in the most detailed images yet, but should be good enough for sharing over the Internet at least. Those who would like to take advantage of the large screen and enjoy their favorite movies will be glad to know there’s a microSDHC card slot for up to 16GB of additional storage space. Last but not least, the Solstice is capable of quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G connectivity.
