Pixel 9 Pro Fold battery and charging: The specs are here (kind of)

Google's second generation foldable phone is here, and this time around it is named the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the successor to last year's Pixel Fold. There are lots of new things about the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but what about its battery and charging situation?

Foldables are not exactly known for their amazing battery life, as they can be much more power hungry depending on how you use them. That's why we are interested to find out just how much more power efficient the new 9 Pro Fold is, as its thinner formfactor has resulted also in a smaller battery compared to its predecessor.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold Battery Upgrades

Well, in terms of battery capacity we can't really say there are any upgrades. In fact, it is a downgrade from the 4,821 mAh battery of the OG Pixel Fold to a 4,650 mAh cell inside the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Google claims the Pro Fold can last users more than 24 hours on a single charge, and up to 72 hours with the Extreme Battery Saver mode turned on. We will let you know our own findings after we get a chance to put the Pixel 9 Pro Fold through our dedicated battery life tests.

The battery on the Pro Fold might be smaller than last year's model, but the new and much more power efficient Tensor G4, as well as other improvements in efficiency, might result in even better battery life.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold Charging Upgrades

We don't have clear information about how fast the Pixel 9 Pro Fold charges yet. Google says to use their new fast 45W charger, but it's unclear if the phone can actually use that much power. All we know is that it can charge pretty quickly, but we need more details to understand exactly how fast. Stay tuned for our charging tests.

Will the Pixel 9 Pro Fold have reverse wireless charging?

No. The new Pixel 9 Pro Fold does not come with reverse wireless charging, just like its predecessor the Pixel Fold did not support it.

What charger does the Pixel 9 Pro Fold use?

Google has used its brand new 45W adapter when describing the Pixel 9 Pro Folds' charging, so the best and safest one to use will be that one, which you can buy from Google's online store or on location. That said, you will be able to charge the Pro Fold with any other Type C charger, just make sure it is not some cheap knockoff.

How fast does the Pixel 9 Pro Fold charge?

With the slightly smaller battery and presumingly faster charging speeds, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold should charge noticeably faster than its predecessor. For context, the Pixel Fold took about 1 hour and 32 minutes to charge its battery from 1 to 100%.
