Currently accepting new clients (as of the week of October 7th, 2024)! My style and approach to therapy are influenced by a holistic understanding that we are a composite of our histories and experiences, the intersections of our identities, and socio-cultural understandings and systems. I am also a firm believer that therapy is a collaborative process of growth and discovery between the client and therapist, and while you are the true catalyst for change, it is an honour to be by your side throughout the journey.

Do you feel like you are constantly giving to others, feel lost or confused about who you are, and what brings you joy or pleasure? People pleasers prioritize everyone else around them, putting themselves last until they are exhausted and have no energy left. I work with people to help them find what they need – it could be validation, acknowledgement, finding the things that bring them joy, or discovering what pleasure feels like in their body. I will aid you in exploring the sensations in your body to figure what feels right for you and how you can live the life you want to live

As a new parent, you’re realizing that your mental health is in need of an overhaul. Things that you were able to push away, distract, or rationalize keep coming up back up (e.g. the birth trauma, your own childhood experiences, your prickly relationships). These painful reminders stop you from feeling fully present with your child. You’re distracted, triggered, and quickly overwhelmed. You want to begin parenting the right way, and that means finally addressing these emotional blocks. You want to feel more in control and like yourself again.

We are social workers with a combined 50 years of experience, providing trauma-informed therapy and consultation services in Waterloo Region. We work collaboratively with our clients to establish a trusting, safe, and purposeful relationship. Throughout the pandemic, we witnessed a significant increase in mental health concerns such as social isolation, anxiety, depression, suicidality, addictions, trauma and grief. As a result, we decided that a collaborative approach to healing was more conducive to recovery. Our partnership was formed on this principle - connections heal!

There is nothing as fulfilling and rewarding as being the best version of yourself. However, it’s a process. Along the journey of life, you may feel overwhelmed, frustrated or even stuck. Sometimes, in a bid to unstuck or fill the void, we latch on to something else that creates more problems. It could also be inability to let go of the past pain. At the Vine, we will be your ally on this journey by supporting, enriching and empowering you. We do this by unveiling different characters, situations and circumstances on your journey. We bring your awareness to your responses and encourage you to embrace seasons of life with compassion

Motherhood is hard. It is messy. If you're struggling to find moments of joy, you're feeling alone and overwhelmed, you wonder if something is wrong with you and you long for your life before becoming a parent- you're in the right place. If you're feeling resentment building with your partner, the voices of anxiety, depression, sadness and rage have been loud and you don't know know how to manage them- you're not alone. If you're working to heal from a traumatic birth, you are struggling with the demands of parenting and paid work and you do you don't know who you are anymore- I'd be honoured to hold space for you.

Accepting NEW Clients - I am licenced in Ontario and engaging in psychotherapy with clients for over 7 years. My strength is in life-stage, identity, and relational issues; as well as depression and trauma. Through using verbal and non-verbal explorations of somatic emotions, we might uncover early childhood experiences outside of your awareness which impact your present behaviour and mental well-being. Our overall goal is to gradually re-establish balance and well-being to reduce anxiety, depression, and aimlessness. By providing a safe therapeutic space, you and I will have a place to put the pieces of a puzzled life together.

Within each of us lies the vision and hope for the life we want to live. Yet, we can feel overwhelmed by inner or outer challenges, fears, negative beliefs, low self-esteem, anxiety or depression. In many years of practice, I have seen the resilience of the human spirit. As a Spiritual Psychotherapist, I work with traditional approaches, as well as those rooted in Transpersonal Psychology, Archetypal Psychology and Shamanism which recognize the power and strength inherent within to facilitate change. My aim is to act as guide as clients address past pain and present circumstances that limit the ability to live a life in full bloom.

I am certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples! We want to feel connected but don't always know how to get there. We need tools! We want to be able to talk about our feelings and needs without getting caught up in the same frustrating arguments that go nowhere. We want so much more than feeling empty inside like roommates, just parents, or good friends who pay the bills together. We desire security and love. But we have so many doubts and questions: Am I too much or not good enough? How can I build more balance within myself and in my relationship? How can I feel seen, heard, and fulfilled without creating conflict?

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
