It can be exhausting to sort through all these profiles. So, how do you find the therapist that best fits your needs? One can learn a lot about a person through the questions they ask. To help find out if I may be a good fit to support you, I was wondering if you'd be open to answer the following 3 questions? 1. Are you looking to discover or reconnect with your Authentic Self? 2. Do you feel overwhelmed when self-critical, people-pleasing, or perfectionistic parts take over? 3. Do your current coping strategies feel out of hand or are no longer effective? If you answered 'Yes' to any of these questions, know that you are not alone.

Life can present challenges for all of us. Most people will experience some form of depression or anxiety at some point in their life. The support of an empathetic, non-judgmental counsellor can help us to create a plan to move forward when we feel ‘stuck’. If you are experiencing sadness, stress, or worry, I can provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for you to identify the goals that are most important to you, and support you in reaching those goals.

It’s not always easy....I get it! But you don’t have to feel trapped by emotional discomfort. Although there will always be the chance of facing difficult experiences, you can engage them with strength and resilience. Life is too precious to surrender to anxiety, depression, stress, and unhealthy relationships. I want to help you embrace well-being with purpose so you can live the life you want with confidence and joy. I want to help you discover that strength.

Developing a trusting relationship with a therapist is key to better understanding ourselves, harnessing our strengths and developing a sense of empowerment in managing our difficulties.
We’re all prone to personal challenges, loss, relationship struggles and times when it's hard to cope. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. I use a person-centred collaborative process with my clients and tailor therapy to each individual. I believe empathy begins with understanding life from another person's perspective, and is done without any judgement whatsoever. I provide an empathetic, trusting and confidential environment and offer support, coping tools, and encouragement to open up, identify strengths, change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviours.

In subsequent sessions, we will explore different techniques, look at new ways of seeing and doing things, so that the challenges are better managed or completely resolved.
Healing and recovery begin with acceptance. Choosing peace over chaos. Life often takes unpredictable turns and no one is immune from adversities. Despite our best efforts, we often need a ladder or a bridge to assist us to connect, reconnect, recover, discover, to achieve self-actualization and empowerment. I recognize that Everyone is unique, every situation is exceptional and there is no one size fits all solution. I provide a safe space within which you may initiate your self-actualization and empowerment. Together, we foster hope and develop the expectation of change, within a sphere of hope, motivation and determination.

Being a real live hu man, I've struggled with my own mental health and work from both sides of the therapist’s desk.
Oh hi. You know, I can imagine that he steps leading you here today involved some tough times. I know how difficult it is finding help, especially when you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotional, scared. Maybe things are going pretty well and you’re looking to grow. Either way, I think we all deserve every chance to improve ourselves, find ourselves in the one life we've been given here. That’s what I’m trying to do too. The only way I know how. Through listening, awareness, connection, and growth. I do this with folks who might need someone to help them navigate anxiety, depression, relationship dynamics, and trauma.

I provide honest, down to earth, compassionate feedback on managing your interactions and helping you be the best 'you' in relationships.
My main area of focus is helping eliminate abuse in interpersonal relationships, from as seemingly "light" as bickering to more escalated confrontations. I've worked with perpetrators ( males and females) of domestic violence for nine years, helping people as they work to re-establish healthier relationships with partners and family members again, or start new relationships better. Much of this is developing communication and empathy skills, all in the context of understanding yourself better and, often, your life experiences you've had that have brought you to this point.

My approach to psychotherapy is based in the belief that we, as people, possess the strength and resources necessary to make positive, helpful changes in our lives. My goal is to help my clients develop solutions to the problems life can present, building resilience and coping skills, reconnecting with their values, and thinking critically (and compassionately) about their own distress processes. In other words: to develop their own compassionate inner-therapist. I strive to create a space with clients that is collaborative, accepting, non-judgmental, and authentic, which I view as essential to the therapeutic relationship.

These brains of ours don't come with instruction manuals - figuring out how to navigate life is tough enough, but can sometimes seem impossible when we experience mental health difficulties. I specialize in working with people with BPD (attachment trauma), anxiety disorders, OCD, couples and people with complex difficulties who may have been given multiple diagnoses. Therapy can be a strange process, I try to make it simple and straightforward. We get to know each other, and figure out if we’re a good fit. We get a clear picture of what the problems are, and what’s going wrong (and what’s going right) in your life.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
