When little people are overwhelmed by BIG feelings it is our job to share our calm, not join their chaos. -L.R. Knost. For many kids and teens, even mentioning beginning counseling can feel scary and overwhelming, being asked to share their deepest thoughts and feelings and behavioral challenges with a complete stranger. I recognize this challenge and approach my sessions with patience and understanding. Just as every child and their reasons for beginning this process are unique and diverse, so is my treatment style. I focus on developing coping skills, frustration management, and processing and exploring emotions and experiences.
I keep my clients engaged through hands-on activities. Often children communicate through play, so I meet them at their level and engage in their communication style through play-based activities. When approaching counseling with adolescents, I utilize validation and a strengths-based approach, building on their interests to develop and learn in sessions.
I pride myself on being very thorough in explaining and guiding through the counseling journey and assisting clients and their parents/caregivers in developing a treatment plan and approach that best fits their needs. I am currently accepting new clients and can answer any questions you may have about the process.
