I believe individuals’ thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and bodily sensations need to be brought into our awareness, as insight is essential for change. I also believe that humans want to find purpose and meaning in their lives, that most people want to feel loved, validated, and that their needs are being met. When these are not present, unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, such as avoidance or negative self-talk can arise and cause distress in our lives. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and the therapeutic relationship as tools for alleviating symptoms and supporting other goals of healing.

Do you find yourself struggling with anxiety and worst-case scenario thinking? Do you spend a lot of time worrying about what other people think about you, or feeling stuck in relationship patterns that are ultimately unfulfilling? Maybe you're struggling with confidence at work, or maybe you're hoping to find love and acceptance in relationships but are more often left feeling insecure or rejected. Maybe you're starting to realize that you often play the role of people-pleaser while neglecting your own feelings and needs. You want things to change, but you're not sure how to get there.

I work with adult individuals who struggle with a myriad of challenges but primarily focus on self esteem/identity, anxiety, depression, relational challenges and intergenerational trauma.
I understand that during our life journey, we can experience mental, emotional, and relational distress. Sometimes we know what is causing it but don’t necessarily know what to do about it. At other times we don’t actually know what is causing the discomfort or pain and where it’s coming from, but we know we feel it. This is where therapy can be very helpful. I find it a privilege to walk alongside each of my clients as they explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences and the impact it's had on them and continues to.

Hey there! Glad to see you here! I describe myself as a warm, client-centered, trauma informed therapist. My clients are champions of their own lives- they are interested and driven by many goals but with a common thread being interested in how they can look at themselves and others in a different light. As your therapist, you can expect me to bring flexibility, humor, empathy, curiosity, and honesty to sessions as we walk together. Whether its a space to work through life challenges, finding meaning through transitions, or a place for you to be witnessed and "be"- we get to be in whatever process you're in and honor it!

I smile at the paradox that even though I'm a work in progress, with problems of my own, I can try to help others navigate the challenges they are facing. Each of us lives a unique and complex life, populated with our own ambitions, friends, routines, fears, and inherited craziness. Our lives create an epic story that continues invisibly around you with elaborate and meaningful experiences. At times we can feel stuck, unhappy, or even lost. Each time we consciously work with our pain, we are working towards a more nuanced understanding of ourselves - an understanding that is less binary and more inclusive of our humanity.

My style is to support you in connecting with and understanding your deepest agendas and to facilitate the expansion of your capacity to live authentically, with all the parts of yourself. Many people have an intuition of when it's time to make changes, but are uncertain about how to do this, or where to begin. I'll help you generate the right conditions for change by first working to thoroughly understand your inner landscape, and what it’s like to be you. I'll assist you in refining your own instruction manual, find a useful balance between acceptance and discipline, and live a life with more self-compassion.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
