As an LPC and EMDR Certified Therapist, it is my goal to assist clients in addressing mental health and behavior issues that may be preventing them from living the life they desire. I provide a warm, collaborative, and safe environment that encourages the client to be in control of the focus and direction of therapy. I use a variety of approaches, but primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR to help clients identify and challenge negative thought and behavior patterns, as well as reprocess past trauma. I have worked in in-patient and out-patient settings with clients of all ages, including children, teens, and adults.

Throughout our lives, we may face many challenges. Some of those challenges may allow us the opportunity to resolve the situation unassisted. However, there are instances when additional support may be needed to help one navigate a successful resolution. As a Licensed Clinician credentialed through the State of New Mexico with over 14 years of experience, I continue to provide essential services and support to a diverse population of individuals across all ages. I utilize a variety of therapuetic techniques individualized for each client as I understand one intervention should not apply across the board.

Self-esteem takes a beating when women begin their transition, so my practice is designed to help women regain their balance.
Are you a women that is possibly going through peri-menopause? There isn't a lot of help out there for women 35 and up to guide us through this crazy time - and it is indeed crazy! Our hormones are all over the place, we are rethinking everything, and we are re-evaluating our worth as a woman. Kids are grown, so no more busy mommy mode. Your spouse probably chews too loud (among other things), everything is annoying, and our patience is wearing thin. We don't know what to do or even how to survive the chaos and that is where I come in! I treat the whole woman and have a network of resources,so all needs and concerns are addressed

I primarily work with teens and adults who struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem, and perfectionism who are looking to gain confidence and reduce rigid thinking. I often find that this population struggles with being present due to second-guessing their performance or constantly feeling anxious about the next task. In some cases, this can even lead to unhealthy coping skills. They want to be able to learn how to have more flexible thinking, self-compassion, and healthy coping skills. I also enjoy working with clients who are going through difficult life transitions in addition to grief.

Life throws many surprises at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can control how we respond to certain situations. In many ways, being human is our biggest challenge. We have complex thought processes, feelings, and practices of reacting to the world we live in. Therefore, our personal experiences and ways of relating to our world are difficult to understand - even by ourselves! When faced with hardship, trauma, uncertainty, and change, these complexities become even more challenging to know.

You’ve found yourself in this painful cycle called life for far too long. Now, you’re treading water just trying to stay afloat. You feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and getting through your day-to-day seems impossible. You’ve managed to look like you have it all together, but on the inside you’re completely falling apart. You feel completely disconnected from the very life you’re living and the people you’re around, you can’t sleep, you’re constantly overwhelmed, and your mind is always racing. You’re out of options and don’t know what to do.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
