Therapists in Vermont
I believe true healing occurs when an authentic relationship is built between therapist and client in a space that is safe and free of judgment. Life experience, both personal and professional, have contributed to my psychotherapy practice and specializing in addictions counseling. My focus is a Solution-based therapeutic model that is goal-oriented, collaborative, and supports positive change. As a self-styled eco/therapist, I also enjoy integrating talk therapy with a creative approach that includes bringing sessions outside into nature, with Walk & Talk therapy (when weather permits).

Hi there. Thanks for stopping to read my blurb. My name is Nikki and I have worked in the Community Mental Health field for over 20 years. I have had the pleasure of working with many types of people in various stages of need- from case management to Crisis Intervention and support. I feel honored that people have let me into their lives and be witness to such vulnerable parts. I'm invested in working with people and meeting them where they are at. I believe that people can do incredible things and that at times we all need some support, guidance and someone to talk and process with- I'd love the chance to be that person.

If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you.

Loss and trauma come in all shapes and sizes. The death of a loved one, the loss of relationships, traumatic events, and various life changes (even ones that seem to be typical) can lead to feelings of intense sadness, confusion, anger, and anxiety. They can impact our day-to-day functioning, our relationships with others, our jobs, our sleep, and our overall wellbeing. Too often, problems we could manage or avoid in the past become barriers to living quality lives, and we're left feeling hopeless and alone.

My therapy practice hopes to provide a healing and supportive space for you. Within this space, we can look at what is happening in your life. Life sometimes presents many challenges. Counseling is a great way to gain self awareness, promoting growth and support to navigate life as a human being. Through self growth we are able to learn acceptance about ourselves and the situations around us. Or make changes to things we want to be different. Understanding our own humanity provides a helpful perspective. My hope is to support you to experience your own life in the way that you are wanting to.

I work with individuals and couples who wish to bring greater authenticity, meaning, depth, and awareness to their life journey. Therapy illuminates the many layers of self, allowing us to see inward with ever greater clarity. As self-knowledge deepens, so does the ability to shed versions of ourselves that no longer serve us. We move toward a life path that aligns with who we are in our core; a life of ease, fulfillment, and truth. This approach to therapy is best suited for courageous and insightful individuals who are willing to journey into the depths of the psyche, moving through both darkness and light.

I specialize in supporting young adults, including college students, and older teens (15+). I aim to partner with clients to help them develop a strong sense of self, healthy relationships, appropriate boundaries, and effective coping skills. With so many choices and options in this 21st century, it’s not unusual to feel paralyzed, anxious or depressed, especially during life's transition periods. Suddenly it may feel as if there is no “right choice” or even “a choice”, which can trigger symptoms of depression and anxiety which affect our self-care, relationships and school/professional lives.

I like to start by building trust and finding out what goals you want to set for yourself. A safe, encouraging atmosphere with no authoritarian or shaming attitudes is important. Humor is useful with couples, families or teens. Role-plays are a fun way to practice new relationship skills.

If you found yourself here, I imagine you’ve been feeling worried, sad and maybe even lonely. I imagine you’ve been struggling with how to solve a problem or a theme that continues to show up in your life. You know that something needs to change, but you aren’t sure what that is quite yet. I can imagine you’ve been attempting to make this problem go away or to solve it, but it hasn’t worked so you found yourself exploring resources to help you figure this out. Often folks are wanting something different from their relationship, or their work, or both and would like a non-biased person to process these concerns with.

As you navigate the many qualities of your life—the personal, relational, and professional; your goals and aspirations; the range of day-to-day experiences—you may at times encounter challenges that feel insurmountable. You might doubt your strength and resilience, feel stuck, and be uncertain of how to reconnect again with yourself, your pursuits, and those important to you. It is possible you feel lost and find that familiar efforts to cope are no longer effective, leaving you searching for other ways to manage.
