Capcom's Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is out on Xbox this Thursday, and as a result, a bunch of pre-release reviews have started popping up online as the Japanese developer prepares for its upcoming zombie-filled release.

We've already shared our thoughts on this new remaster elsewhere on Pure Xbox, which you can also check out down below, alongside a selection of other reviews from across the web.

Pure Xbox (7/10)

"Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster pretty much does what it says on the tin, but we were hoping for a little bit more from the game's 'Deluxe' moniker. The new visuals and performance improvements are nice, and the game's fresh control schemes and autosave options make this the best way to play Dead Rising in the modern era. However, the game's ever-controversial timer feels even more restrictive in 2024, and we feel like other dated elements such as the constant load screens could have also been brushed up for this new re-release."

VG24/7 (5/5)

"Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster stands as a prime example of how to do remasters right. It doesn't cut or alter hastily. What Capcom has added, and what it has improved, only enhances the original experience. For Dead Rising fans, this is like a re-opening of your favourite childhood fast food spot, a brand-new un-torn version of your favourite t-shirt, or returning to a beloved holiday destination and finding all the places you've missed are still there and with a fresh coat of paint."

TheGamer (9/10)

"More than anything, it’s a joy to see a game that means so much to me have the time and love it deserves poured into it by developers who clearly care about it just as much as I do. There was a chance that Dead Rising was going to be stuck in a grave forever, but Deluxe Remaster proves that the dead can, and should, rise again."

Screen Rant (9/10)

"Like Romero's best movies, Dead Rising uses its zombies to tell a compelling story about society (in this case, American society) at large, and this is filtered through the outside perspective of the game's original developers and writers. If you've never played it, or if your only experience with the franchise relates to the other titles, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is the best place to start."

Noisy Pixel (8.5/10)

"Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster allowed me to re-write the past where I once passed on the franchise. Surprisingly, even in 2024, this insane combination of genres holds up. Discovering the various ways of using items and navigating this mall over multiple runs was consistently fun, capped off by some of the most insane psychopath bosses I've ever fought against."

Push Square (8/10)

"A substantial visual overhaul of Dead Rising is what will immediately stand out most, but where the Deluxe Remaster truly thrives is in all its gameplay touch-ups to make the classic play and feel like any other modern game. They all build to the definitive Dead Rising experience, where its time management feature can be properly appreciated."

VGC (4/5)

"Dead Rising is still heaps of daft, gory fun, and the Deluxe Remaster is an excellent excuse to catch up with Frank. Almost every change that's been made to the new release is for the better, and while it won't blow your socks off like Capcom's other revisited classic, we're more than happy to spend another 72 hours with Mr West. He's covered wars, you know."

COGConnected (7/10)

"A good remaster should preserve the original game while shining it up for modern audiences. In this case, I could've used a few more mechanical upgrades. The graphics have been majorly upgraded, which rules. And I appreciate having two different control schemes to switch between. But certain moves and skills still feel floaty and/or magnetic. Worse yet, there are core design elements that can't be smoothed over with a remaster. To be clear, this is the superlative way to play the first Dead Rising. But honestly, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is still the weakest entry in the series, at least for me."

Generally speaking, then, folks are a little bit higher on Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster than us here at Pure Xbox - with the game currently holding firm with a very respectable 84 on Metacritic at the time of writing.

Capcom's latest version of this classic zombie slayer hits Xbox Series X|S on September 19th.
