Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Dragon Age (Video Games), Dragon Age II Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Female Hawke/Sebastian Vael Characters: Female Hawke, Sebastian Vael Additional Tags: Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Forbidden Love, Slow Dancing, Non-Sexual Intimacy Summary:

Marian and Sebastian share a midnight dance.

Another older work, but still to this day, one of my favorite things I’ve written. It was a one-shot based on a Tumblr prompt (slow-dancing with Hawke and Sebastian), and I just found my groove with it almost immediately. It was one of those pieces that I did not have to fight to get the words out at all.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Dragon Age (Video Games), Dragon Age II Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Bethany Hawke/Cullen Rutherford Characters: Bethany Hawke, Cullen Rutherford Additional Tags: Friendship, Minor Angst, Circle Dynamics Summary:

Cullen and Bethany watch templars during their vigil.

An old one-shot I wrote shortly before Inquisition’s release in 2014. I’ve always been curious about the inner workings and rituals of the templars, and I think it was Cullen’s line in DA2 about them taking a vigil before becoming full knights that inspired this one. At the time, there was nothing about what that actually looked like--I’m not sure if that’s changed within the years I stopped closely following the series, but either way, this was always one of my personal favorites.

At the beginning of 2023, I started working on this story set following Valerie and Goro doing a gig for Wako. The premise is that Goro and Valerie are looking into an unsanctioned Tyger Claw weapon manufacturer trying to cut Wako out of a deal and they have to find proof of that betrayal, but shit kinda goes badly when the place goes boom. And of course, there was supposed to be plenty of bonding and banter between the blorbos.

Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, I never got around to finishing it. -_-

Mostly thanks to technical issues: this era was pre-custom poses (well, widely available custom poses + public knowledge of how to make them) and before I had started using PMU, but right after AMM updated to give us the ability to select poses right from the menu. I wanted so badly to make the new pose function work with my process because it seemed like it should have been easier (raise your hand if you remember the dark days of having to reload the game pretty much every time you wanted to change an NPC pose!!!), but the way characters would reset the pose anytime you moved them made it really time-consuming and frustrating for me.

It was a very good learning experience, though, because a lot of the hiccups I dealt with here made it easier for me to do this big story set just a couple of months later.

By the time I was able to return to this one, I could not find my notes for the main beats and dialogue (still no idea what I did with them) and I was like, fine, whatever. My workflow and style had also evolved by that point. It was time to move on, haha. But I shot probably 85% of what I wanted to shoot for it, and not sharing it at all just kind of seemed like a waste. So under the cut are 40 panels of Goro and Valerie being badasses and starting to fall for each other. Enjoy!

I had just planned on taking pictures of her in the shiny dress, and then the Jenkins-negging-Valerie-to-join-counterintel brainworm took over out of nowhere.

Before Valerie was Arasaka CI, she was Arasaka security, and she and Jenkins met in 2074 when she was part of a bodyguard detail for him and Abernathy. Jenkins was (platonically) captivated by Valerie and spent the better part of a month trying to convince her she could do more than be a glorified hired gun. She obviously gives in eventually, but she's highly suspicious of him early on.

Trying to get my shit together to write some more fic this year, and I've been consolidating all my loose documents into my official Scrivener project. Here's a little Goro and Valerie snippet that's always tickled me:

"How’d you end up with this hunk of junk anyway?" Valerie asked as she buckled her seat belt.

"I purchased it from a reputable dealership," Goro replied dryly.

Valerie rolled her eyes but laughed. She then conducted a rudimentary inspection of the vehicle, opening and closing the empty glove compartment before her, then fiddling with the equally uninteresting sun visor. Finding nothing of significance in front of her, Valerie turned in her seat to inspect the back of the van. It was also empty save for his small bag of personal effects.

Agitated by her senseless curiosity, Goro was about to ask what she was looking for when she spoke first.

"Are you sleeping in here?"

Her tone was gentle, unexpectedly extinguishing his irritation from her relentless prying.

"Is this another inquiry into my well-being?" He asked instead.

Valerie shrugged.

"I've slept in my car in the city. It's not particularly safe." She gave him a small smile. "Even for people like you."

Goro regarded her from the corner of his eyes. He recalled their conversation two nights ago, when he had suspected her interest in his welfare was self-serving. His paranoia had offended her so he apologized, but he was incredulous by nature and knowing the particulars of her career history did little to truly lessen his suspicion. The few classified reports Goro had been able to obtain from the Night City counter-intelligence database repeatedly praised her high interpersonal skills as key assets during operations–It was clear her disarming personality could be as much a threat as the pistol she kept strapped to her thigh.

"I will be fine," he finally said.

WIP Whenever

@corpocyborg tagged me to share some stuff I'm working on--Thank you!! 💙

I've been wanting to get back into story-telling, either through fic or photostories, so I've been playing around with some scenes in photomode to kinda get the creative juices flowing.

One of my favorite things to muse on is honestly just them plotting and chatting in some cool area. Here are some unedited shots from a recent session:

Find the Word - Manuscript Search Tag

Tagged by @corpocyborg--Thank you so much! This is great timing too because I've been feeling the itch to get back to writing fic again.

Words to search: trust, accident, rule, suspect, understand

#1 - Trust

From an unpublished WIP that was an excuse to write a drunk Goro

“--Please, meet me on Jig-Jig Street. I will explain there.”

Well, that woke her up.

“Jig-Jig Street? What the hell–”

Goro disconnected the call and Valerie blinked before rubbing her tired face.

“So in addition to being top-tier ‘Saka scum, he’s a desperate, pathetic pervert.” Johnny lit a phantom cigarette. Valerie wished she could slap it out of his mouth. “You sure know how to pick ‘em, V.”

“You’re one to talk.” She shuffled over to the pair of clean-enough sweatpants draped over the couch.

“You’re not actually going to meet this guy right now, are you?”

“What does it look like?” Valerie asked as she tied the drawstring into a bow under her waist.

“Why are you really helpin’ him, huh? Because you’re so fucked in the head that you actually trust he’s our best shot at fixin’ this shit?” Johnny flicked the cigarette butt onto her floor. “Or because you like how he looks at you with those pretty brown eyes?”

“I don’t know, Johnny.” Valerie pulled a black sweatshirt with a faded Arasaka logo over her blue hair and then reached for the bottle of omega-blockers on the end table. She dropped two pills into her palm and took a swig of room-temperature NiCola. “Maybe both.”

#2 - Accident

From my unpublished and probably perpetually unfinished long fic WIP

Goro set his now empty glass down on the table and rubbed his face. He knew it was unwise to indulge in these thoughts. Even in the unlikely event that she, a clever, compassionate, beautiful woman reciprocated any of the ill-advised feelings that had been stewing inside him for the past few weeks, they were not feelings either of them could act on.

If all went to plan, Goro would return to Tokyo with Hanako-sama, where he would, under the best of circumstances, be reassigned, perhaps put back in the special forces. Valerie would have the Relic removed and resume her life in Night City as a reputable solo, living her corporate-free life.

And if the plan went belly-up.…

It was best to not consider that possibility.

He reached for his phone and tapped the display, accidentally activating the front-facing camera. Goro scowled at the unflattering reflection of himself and thumbed the icon he thought would take him to the home screen. Instead, the photo gallery launched.

Most of the pictures were practical in nature, a means of recording notable locations and suspicious vehicles, but he had indulged in a snapshot of the hairless cat that visited them during their stakeout. Goro decided he wanted to take a closer look at their feline visitor when he saw it was not the only subject he had caught on the rooftop: next to that photo was a blurry image of Valerie, dazzling in the golden light of the early evening sunset, smiling up at something as she pet the cat.

He realized from the angle of the picture that the something she was smiling at would have been him.

#3 - Rule

I couldn't find this one! I am doing this at work and don't have access to all my WIPs, but it wasn't in any of my Google docs or AO3 publishes. I'm sure it's somewhere in my Scrivener files, though.

#4 - Suspect

Also from my unpublished and probably perpetually unfinished long fic WIP

"How’d you end up with this hunk of junk anyway?" Valerie asked as she buckled her seat belt.

"I purchased it from a reputable dealership," Goro answered dryly.

Valerie rolled her eyes but laughed. She then conducted a rudimentary inspection of the vehicle, opening and closing the empty glove compartment before her, then fiddling with the equally uninteresting sun visor. "I will be fine," he finally said.

#5 - Understand

From Homecoming, a post-Mikoshi smut-with-feelings one-shot

"You'll have to teach me how to make some of these dishes. I never really had much opportunity, or reason, really, to cook before."

The thought of sharing such a moment with Valerie made his whole body tremble with impatience. Even just doing unscrupulous merc assignments together, it was quickly apparent they had a natural rhythm and rapport as partners. Goro suddenly found himself eager to seize on that harmony, not for their often violent duties, but to create something beautiful with Valerie. To nourish another passion he had been denied for two years.

"I will," he promised softly as he met her by the window.

Valerie tilted her head and skimmed her hand down his chest before slipping her arm around his waist. Goro swallowed, feeling a strange combination of self-satisfaction and humility as she studied him.

"I think there's still some part of me that's convinced this is some elaborate hallucination," Valerie whispered. Her free hand reached for his face, and Goro closed his eyes, allowing himself the indulgence of resting his cheek against her palm.

"I believe I understand the feeling," he said, meeting her gaze.

Lightly, tentatively, Goro brushed her cheek with his thumb. She inhaled and stiffened, and he almost retracted his hand, but Valerie pressed her lips to his in an unwavering embrace. Her skin tingled under his touch, and he felt the heavy sigh she breathed in through her nose. Goro was silently adamant that she dictate their pace, but every time one of those shuddering gasps ravaged her body, they chipped away at his resolve.

Valerie graciously deepened the kiss, moving both of her hands to the back of his neck as she moaned against his mouth. Galvanized by her fervor but still wary of her acute sensitivity, Goro brought his hands to her waist, fingers almost hovering over the black t-shirt.

"You can touch me, you know," Valerie murmured against his lips, lightly nudging the tip of her nose against his.

Aaannd I'm gonna be awful and not tag anyone because I honestly have not been in the fanfic side of fandom much this year and I have no idea who's working on stuff these days. Feel free to take these search words and carry it on, though!

AO3 Meme

I was tagged by @sarahawke to share some links to some of my AO3 stories--Thank you! 💙 Rules: Give us the links to your wonderful words with the Most hits, Most kudos, Most comments, Most bookmarks, Most words, and Least words.

🥇 Most Hits: Scars (Requires AO3 account to read) (Dragon Age Inquisition; Cullen Rutherford x Unnamed F!Trevelyan)

This just has the most hits because it's my oldest fic, and I wrote it in early 2014, which at the time felt like just a few months until Inquisition would come out, so the hype was real. I remember being really inspired by one of the trailers and listening to the DAI theme on repeat and just having these scenes in my head that I needed to get down.

At the time, I was also pretty deep in my Cullen x Hawke ship, and I think I was also trying to figure out how I would compartmentalize that ship with an Inquisitor ship because they weren't going to exist in the same personal canon.

Anyway, I don't remember enough about it to say much more, and I'm not rereading it because I think it'll make me cringe, lmao. I can't believe I wrote that almost 10 years ago.

🥇 Most Kudos: Scars 🥈 Runner-up: Homecoming (Cyberpunk 2077; Goro Takemura x Valerie Powell)

Scars again takes it just by being on there the longest, but Homecoming is nearer and dearer to my heart, so I'm really happy to see that it's number two. (And not that far off from Scars, which I think is impressive given that it's so much newer.)

Homecoming was 1) an excuse to write smut from Goro's POV (third-person limited) and 2) a chance to explore some of Valerie's conditions after her revival from Mikoshi. I wanted it to be on the lighter, fluffier side so it's a little idealized and doesn't delve deep into the hardships they face as they start a new journey with Arasaka.

🥇 Most Comments: Sway (Dragon Age II; Sebastian Vael x Marian Hawke)

Another older work, but still to this day, one of my favorite things I've written. It was a one-shot based on a Tumblr prompt, and I just found my groove with it almost immediately. It was one of those pieces that I did not have to fight to get the words out at all.

Just some mutual pining and non-sexual physical intimacy between two people who want each other but know that can never be.

🥇 Most Bookmarks: Homecoming (Cyberpunk 2077; Goro Takemura x Valerie Powell)

See rambling above. 💙

🥇 Most Words: Homecoming 🥈 Runner-up: With Interest (Cyberpunk 2077; Viktor Vektor x Valerie Powell)

Did you know Valerie and Viktor had a thing before the Heist? Well, if I ever finish With Interest, you'll get to see why that didn't work out! I've had the next chapter, like, 80% finished for the past year, but this past year hasn't really been great for getting the words out. Something I'm hoping to change in the next few months.

🥇 Least Words: The Game (Dragon Age Inquisition; Cullen Rutherford x Michel de Chevin)

I actually forgot I had put this on AO3--Just a quick one-shot based on the prompt "Cullen/Michel - Political games at the Winter Palace."

Thank you for sending this in, bb!! 💙💙

I'm gonna go fic this time! Specifically Homecoming, the post-Mikoshi smut fic I wrote for Goro and Valerie. I'm not gonna reflect on it too much otherwise I'll talk myself out of saying I like it, lmao. But I had fun writing it, and I don't cringe too much re-reading it, which is about as good as it gets for me when it comes to my own fiction writing!

Goro rubbed his palms together as he stood outside her medical room, waiting for the reassuring buzz of the door sliding open. When it did, he was greeted by a young man in a white Arasaka medical uniform. "Takemura-san?" "Yes?" "Miss Powell is ready for you." The medical assistant gestured into the room, and Goro nodded in thanks before he stepped through the doorway. Valerie stood at the edge of the hospital bed with her back to him as she fought with a zipper on a small duffel bag. Her blue hair was swept up in a loose bun, and she was dressed plainly in a black, baggy long-sleeve t-shirt and sweatpants. She was a magnificent sight, truly.

Thanks for sending this to me! 💙 (And sorry I took forever to respond. 😅)

I'm gonna give some love to the very first photostory I did, the sort-of wish-fulfillment deleted scene between Goro and Valerie right after the parade.

Just a few shots from it; I think the full thing is around 45 frames:

Visual storytelling has always been something that I gravitate towards--Comic book artist was even one of my "dream jobs" when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I don't really like drawing/painting anything other than portraits and maybe the occasional landscape, so that dream went nowhere, lmao.

But Tumblr moodboards/photo/gif/edit sets have always scratched that same itch for me since they're usually about representing the main story beats in a game or movie, capturing a snippet of a conversation, finding a cohesive theme or mood, showing some kind of narrative, etc. And even years before I even heard the term "virtual photography," I was often trying to do something similar to what I can do in CP77 VP (like this set of my Warden exploring Cousland castle, a little camping scene in Skyrim, or my Inquisitor closing a rift).

But the tools were very, very limited in comparison so I was mostly left to just daydreaming the rest (or writing fic, which I also get tired of kind of easily, lmao) until I started messing around in Cyberpunk. Suddenly I actually had a pretty robust set of tools that would let essentially let me make my own CP77 comics--It was the art medium I didn't know I needed until I finally got it.

(Also, I gotta give some love to @zyana-wyvern and @lavendermilkandhoney because I think seeing their gorgeous, intricate story sets in CP77 was kind of a lightbulb moment for me, too. 💙)
