Thank you to the Belgian Chamber of Commerce in South Africa and to H.E. Paul Jansen, Ambassador of Belgium in South Africa, for inviting BrightWolves South Africa Principal Coenraad Bezuidenhout to support them in this conversation. BrightWolves SA is growing a fine reputation for supporting fellow Belgian-originated companies to grow, optimise and make their businesses more sustainable in SA. It was also fantastic to hear the creativity with which these construction sector entrants leverage the opportunities and challenges in this interesting market. #letsbuildsouthafrica #turningsaintoaconstructionsite

📌 This Thursday 17/10, by invitation from H.E. Paul Jansen, Ambassador of Belgium in South Africa, the Belgian Chamber of Commerce in South Africa organised its first "sectorial lunch", reuniting around the table some of our Business members active in the construction industry . 💡 What an insightful and fruitful conversation it was. From the challenges encountered, in terms of skills and labour, unregulated imports, law inforcement to business opportunities and synergies, the participants shared their views and strategies to be successful in South Africa, as international investors. ✔ Coenraad Bezuidenhout from BrightWolves South Africa gave us some positive keypoints, with encouraging signs on the economic and political fronts. 🤝🏻 The main take out of this engagement is that the Embassy of Belgium in Pretoria and the regional representatives of Wallonia in South Africa - AWEX and Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) as well as the Business Chamber are the key partners and the sounding board for the Belgian companies that are active in South Africa. Thank you to all our guests for their active participation: Steve Carter from Etex, Carike Pieters and Margaux de Villiers from Soudal South Africa, Bianca S. from Reynaers Aluminium - South Africa, Axel Raven and Mandy Tshabalala from Ilaanga Energy Trading and Project and Lyle Nesbitt from NMC sa. Consultant at BrightWolves | Sustainability & Food Systems

It is clear that tackling food waste is essential for building more sustainable food systems, however we all know that “𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞.”   I’m excited to share my first article, "𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬," recently published in Agrekon. The article is based on my master's thesis completed through the Faculty of AgriSciences at Stellenbosch University alongside Willem de Lange.   I took on the challenge of establishing a 3 month baseline for food waste at a major retailer by trialing the World Resources Institute’s 𝐅𝐋𝐖 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝, as part of the The Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA)’s voluntary agreement. It required pulling together fragmented data from hundreds of stores, waste contractors, distribution centers, and food donation channels. I had the opportunity to meet so many interesting people in the process!   𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦. CEO & Co-founder | M&A Communications | The Human Side of M&A

“It's simple – people drive businesses,” says Nobuhle Ncube (She/Her). As part of the founding team of BrightWolves South Africa, a leading management consulting firm headquartered in Brussels, she would know… We spoke to Nobuhle about the challenges and opportunities of Big Transformation, particularly in the PMI phase of M&A, and here's what we learnt: People are the core of M&A success. M&A deals often fail because they overlook the employees who drive the business. If employees aren't engaged or informed, the risks of resistance and attrition rise. Communication is essential. Clear, consistent communication is crucial during M&A. It helps reduce employee fear and uncertainty, ensuring alignment with the merger’s objectives. Cultural integration is key. Cultural differences can derail a merger if not addressed. Respecting and integrating different work cultures is critical to avoid employee resistance and ensure a smooth transition. 🚀 Unleashing Some Team Spirit 🚀 We recently held two fun team-building events to connect and spend some quality time together: 🏓 Padel Mini-Tournament: Our Cape Town team hit the courts for a friendly padel tournament. With some light rivalry and strategic plays, it was a great way to bond while enjoying a bit of competition! 🎳 Bowling Night: Meanwhile, our Johannesburg team enjoyed a lively bowling night. With some unique rules that added a fun twist, there were plenty of strikes, spares, and lots of laughs! We’re looking forward to more opportunities to get to know our new wolves and strengthen our teamwork beyond the office! 💪✨ #TeamBuilding #WolfPack #Teamwork #TogetherStronger #TeamSpirit

𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐋𝐂𝐀 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 2024 🚅 After a thrilling three days at LCA Food 2024 in Barcelona, our colleagues Vincent Govaers and Peter-Jan 🌍 Roose are back, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚! By sharing their own expertise with over 450 LCA experts, and taking part in a Global Feed LCA Institute Topical Discussion, several crucial takeaways emerged for businesses looking to integrate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in their business-as-usual: 📈 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 & 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: For sustainability to be a competitive edge, companies need the ability to scale their LCA efforts. Defining minimum data requirements and ensuring transparency are key to broad adoption across large supply chains. 💻 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The biggest opportunity for impactful decisions comes early in the product innovation process. Integrating LCA into these initial stages, even with limited data, can drive significant long-term benefits. ♻️ 𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫:  While eco-labeling is becoming more harmonized across Europe, consumer behavior is slow to change. However, major retailers are successfully integrating eco-labels into their marketing strategies, setting the stage for future shifts. 👥𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚: To manage sustainability at scale, collaboration between companies, research institutes, and third-party verifiers is essential. Balancing primary and secondary data, improving data quality ratings, and adopting flexible verification methods will enable broader adoption and trust in sustainability efforts. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: Businesses must embrace technology, collaboration, and data transparency to integrate sustainability into their core strategies and scale LCA across industries. The scientific community must embrace heuristics and the minimum data requirements to ensure broad adoption across large supply chains. 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬: Confirmation of Digit Mint’s product-market fit: Scalable, Brutally Transparent, Collaborative, Data driven, and aimed at large complex supply chains. MPhil (NMU), MBA (BU), PG Dip (Cantab) | Principal @ BrightWolves | Sustainability, platform business models, risk, innovation, purpose, reputation, strategic engagement & partnerships.

I was there from the first Manufacturing Indaba as Executive Director of the Manufacturing Circle when we supported it more than a decade ago.
