The global energy landscape in 2024 saw demand grow at an accelerated pace, driven largely by a sharp rise in electricity consumption. Factors such as increased cooling needs, industry consumption, electrification of transport and the expanding role of data centres and AI all contributed to this surge. 📈🔋 What's even more remarkable is that low-emission sources such as solar PV and nuclear energy met almost all of this new electricity demand. Gas demand also rose, while oil and coal consumption grew at a slower pace than in 2023. 🌿🌞 In terms of emissions, we’re seeing a positive shift: energy-related CO2 emissions grew by just 0.8% in 2024, far below the 3% global economic growth rate. This signifies a decoupling of emissions from economic growth—an encouraging step towards a sustainable energy future. 🌍💚 InternationalEnergyAgency IEA (IEA) provides a detailed look at these developments in their latest report, Global Energy Review 2025. #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #IEA #ClimateAction #Decarbonisation https://lnkd.in/d8sYzZXn

While the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) may not traditionally be associated with oil and gas, its role in South Africa’s draft Oceans Economy Master Plan includes a detailed focus on the oil and gas sector. 🌊 A panel at the Southern African Oil & Gas Conference on March 20th discussed the future of gas discoveries off South Africa's coast, with Anelene Enslin, Upstream Client Alignment Lead Africa at S&P Global, presenting key insights. According to a recent study by S&P Global, by 2050, natural gas will contribute 30% to South Africa’s energy generation, as coal demand decreases by 60%. 🔋 #OceansEconomy #GasMasterPlan #EnergyTransition #SustainableDevelopment #SouthAfrica #SAGas #DFFE #OilAndGas #FutureEnergy https://lnkd.in/d8RbkUwu
