About us
The Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) was established in 2006, in terms of the GMA Act (Act 5 of 2006). GMA Mandate: The primary mandate is to manage, coordinate and oversee the Gautrain Project as well as to assist or act on behalf of other organs of state in performing their public transport and rail-related functions. Critical to the GMA mandate is to ensure that the Gautrain System operates in a sustainable manner with a clear commitment to governance and the Gauteng Provincial Government’s primary economic objectives. Vision: The vision of the GMA is to provide an integrated, innovative and efficient public transport system that promotes sustainable socio-economic growth in South Africa. Leadership: The Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, currently Kedibone Diale Tlabela, is the Executive Authority of the GMA and the GMA Board is the Accounting Authority as contemplated in the Public Finance Management Act. The GMA Board is appointed by the MEC for Roads and Transport. The GMA Board is the foundation of the GMA’s corporate governance systems and is accountable and responsible for the GMA’s performance. The Board retains effective control through a clear governance structure and has established committees to assist it. Gautrain Driver’s Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs) use advanced technology to streamline and refine the licensing experience, drastically reducing waiting times, and guaranteeing a quick, convenient service. The Smart DLTCs are located at Gautrain Centurion and Midrand Stations, and at the Gautrain Management Agency’s office in Midrand (referred to as the Pilot Centre). These smart cashless centres offer a comprehensive range of licensing services, including the renewal of a driver’s licence card and a professional driving permit, application for a temporary driver’s licence, and payment of traffic fines. At the Pilot Centre in Midrand, motorists can also renew their licence discs, a service offering that will be rolled out to other Gautrain DLTCs. Book an appointment through the NaTIS online portal, walks-in are not allowed and cash payments are not accepted. #GautrainJourneys #WhyItMatters

To wrap up #OctoberTransportMonth, the Gautrain Management Agency in partnership with Power FM, hosted a panel discussion on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). This engaging and insightful conversation explored how efficient public transportation can be a game-changer for cities aiming to become more liveable, inclusive, and sustainable. TOC a type of urban development that clusters jobs, housing, services, and amenities around public transport hubs. The Gautrain, as a major public transport investment, has undoubtedly made communities more livable: reducing road congestion, harmful carbon dioxide emissions, noise pollution, and road accidents, fatalities, and injuries. The transit system has also significantly decreased travel time by moving a large number of people quickly and reliably, and connected the scattered urban centres of Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni. The panel of experts included Gautrain Management Agency CEO, Tshepo Kgobe PMP, the Divisional Head for Transportation Planning at the City of Tshwane, Lourens Swanepoel, and Dr Matthew Townshend, Practice Head at DNA Economics. #GautrainJourneys #WhyItMatters
