This distinguished award recognises individuals who push beyond the norm, leading groundbreaking initiatives that drive positive impacts on communities and the environment across Africa. Cathie Lewis, a seasoned sustainability champion, has played a pivotal role in guiding GCX as a leading consultancy in the realm of sustainable practices across Africa, influencing both corporate strategies and environmental policies. On being presented the award Cathie Lewis commented: “After working for about thirty years in various roles and fields, I’ve come to realise that all the different experiences, the studying, the challenges, and even the scars, have come together. There’s a benefit in having gone through those trials and tribulations; and people are taking note. It was mentioned that there are over 1.5 billion people in Africa, and that the five people on stage have been identified as trailblazers, that's seriously humbling. It makes me reflect on my very small place in the larger scheme of things, but it’s also incredibly exciting to think that I have the privilege and the opportunity to make a positive impact on others. What this all comes down to though is that we need to focus on making the lives of people better and the regeneration of our natural environment. If we don’t, we’re heading down the wrong path. It’s about staying connected, working together and finding ways to amplify our efforts for the greater good.
