Mental health issues in South Africa are on the rise, with many communities being faced with escalating levels of poverty, violence and substance abuse. Residing in areas with limited infrastructure and substandard living conditions can trigger emotions of isolation, despair, and helplessness. This is exacerbated by inequalities in education and healthcare. Dr Thabo Mogotlane, Specialist Psychiatrist at Mediclinic, explains the importance of destigmatising mental health and delivering this vital support to the communities of Mabopane, Soshanguve and Ga-Rankuwa: https://lnkd.in/dEW6M6ei

A worrying reality facing South Africa is that almost half (49.1%) of the 18.3 million people currently not enrolled in education or in employment are between the ages of 15 and 34. This is according to South African Markets Insights, which paints a problematic picture for parents who are trying to encourage their children, particularly teenagers, to push forward on plans for the future. Tammy Dicks, ER24's National Trauma Support Co-ordinator, provides insight into how parents can support their children in navigating a future outside of school: https://lnkd.in/dvHamMVh
