With the 11th largest road network in the world and the largest in Africa, the safety of South Africa’s roads is vital. Potholes cause accidents, traffic jams, punctures and damage to vehicles. Motus’ Patch Mzansi initiative has filled thousands of potholes and resulted in a library of images and data. Motus – in partnership with Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking Digital – hosted a hackathon from 8 to 18 August at Stellenbosch University for students to use these images, data and cutting-edge technology to predict how much asphalt is required to fill each pothole. On 22 August prizes for first, second and third place teams were awarded. #Motus #Innovators #MobilityForGood
