The SAICE Durban Branch FLP University Roadshow was a resounding success, offering an invaluable opportunity for students from UKZN, MUT, and DUT to engage directly with industry professionals. Held in a vibrant atmosphere with an impressive attendance of 120 students, and the SAICE Durban FLP Chairperson, Bokang Sithole Pr.Eng, MBA served as the MC.
The highlight of the day was a dynamic panel discussion featuring six seasoned civil engineers who shared their insights and experiences. The panelists answered a range of pre-formulated questions about the civil engineering field, providing students with a clear understanding of what to expect as they transition from academia to industry. This interactive session was complemented by a Q&A segment, allowing students to directly engage with the experts.
Adding to the event's appeal, Standard Bank Group generously sponsored the occasion and delivered a presentation on financial literacy. Their representative, Tshepo Motsosi, not only provided valuable financial advice but also facilitated a fun 30-second game that offered students a chance to win Standard Bank hampers. Furthermore, Kufanikiwa Consulting enriched the experience by providing goody bags to six students who actively participated by asking insightful questions.
The event commenced with a warm welcome and an introduction to the FLP and the day's agenda, followed by the engaging panel discussion. The presentation by Standard Bank and the interactive game rounded off the event, which concluded with a networking session over refreshments. This roadshow was a testament to the collaborative efforts of SAICE Durban FLP, the students and sponsors, successfully bridging the gap between emerging engineers and the professional world.
