Grace Olivia Y. Sihombing and Aaron Clark report in Bloomberg that Indonesia is set to receive $20 billion from wealthier nations to support the transition from coal to cleaner energy sources. Despite the US’ withdrawal from the Just Energy Transition Partnerships,  plans to unlock investment from richer countries for coal-dependent emerging economies, the JETPs are set to still take place, including deals for countries such as Vietnam. “The US exit from the Paris Agreement and JETP does not reduce the commitment of the other nine partner countries to support Indonesia’s net-zero emission target,” Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said in a briefing. With funding set to continue, ensuring the ‘just’ in the JETPs is vital to gaining engagement from communities on the ground in countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam and South Africa. Insights from the #StepChange Learning Review 2025 The workshop in Arusha convened stakeholders from Africa, Latin America, and South Asia to advance #LocallyLedAdaptation. Discussions focused on amplifying local voices, cross-project learning, gender inclusion, ethical knowledge sharing, and tech-driven solutions. Among the highlights was the Collaborative Framework for Metrics, led by Africa Research and Impact Network (ARIN). This framework standardizes impact measurement and enhances adaptation effectiveness. The #LAMA project is setting the stage for community-driven adaptation #indicators. Last month, SDDirect and Plan International UK co-facilitated an in-person learning event hosted by Bond UK and HaysMac, bringing together 50+ Bond members to discuss equitable partnerships in international development. We shared insights from the Building Equitable Partnerships Practice and Reflection Paper and tools developed through our Equitable Partnerships Initiative. A powerful Global South perspective was provided by Shehnaaz Moosa (SouthSouthNorth), sharing experiences from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Climate and Nature Helpdesk. The event builds on over three years of dialogue, research and methodology development in the Plan International family, focused on practical tools to build more equitable and partnerships. Our ultimate goal is to advance Plan’s Locally Led, Globally Connected agenda as well as the global Pledge for Change commitment to make equitable partnerships the default approach of major INGOs by 2030. The discussion was lively and covered critical topics such as: - Addressing power imbalances in partnerships - Getting donor buy-in for equitable partnerships - Shifting compliance cultures while maintaining safeguarding standards - Rethinking funding models to support Global South partners - Building stronger partnerships with informal organisations & social movements With demand exceeding capacity at this event, we’re hosting a follow-up online session on Monday 28 April - keep a look out for details.
