About us
With around 90% plastic pollution reaching the Oceans through Rivers, we have established our Litterboom technology across multiple River systems to tackle the problem upstream before reaching the Oceans.

We believe in the power of collective action. World Cleanup Day isn’t just a date on the calendar – it’s a call to action, a reminder that change starts with each of us. Together, we can make a real difference in keeping our rivers and oceans clean. The Black River Mouth in Cape Town is looking particularly shocking so our Rondebosch Golf Course and Maitland teams, joined the ladies from the Black River Mouth and at low tide got stuck in to intercept the huge amount of litter before it reached our ocean. Check out the before and after – it’s proof that when we come together, we can create real change. Let’s keep this momentum going! Join us for World Cleanup Day on the and be part of the solution. 🚨 Urgent Call for Help: Oil Spill in the Duzi River 🚨 On Monday, our team discovered a devastating oil spill in the Msunduzi River near Campsdrift in Pietermaritzburg. The spill, about 60cm deep, is filled with plastics, and tragically, it has already caused the deaths of fish and birds which the teams have seen floating amongst the plastic. Although we’ve notified authorities and are working tirelessly, we urgently need your help. We’re calling on the community and neighbouring businesses to support our efforts. We need more hands on deck and assistance in transporting the contaminated material to a hazardous waste disposal facility. Water and sanitation teams will be taking samples on Friday to identify the source of the spill, but until then, every bit of help counts. If you can assist, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. Let’s come together to protect our river and its wildlife. Parley for the Oceans Cameron Service Cairly Matthews Maritzburg Sun

Call to entry for our annual Circular Innovation Challenge 2024! Hosted by SOLVE@Waterfront, the Vikāra Institute and the V&A Waterfront. We are seeking entries of products, technologies and/or services which encourage the move from a linear to a circular economy. Our vision is a future in which everyday items such as textiles and plastics, food production and construction materials, and byproducts of living such as waste and blackwater, are produced, consumed, and/or managed in a circular and regenerative manner. Our vision, thus, is a world in which resources are conserved, waste is minimised, and ecosystems are preserved, leading to a thriving and sustainable society. Our top finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their idea to a panel of experts in the circularity field at Vikára’s annual symposium (22 – 24 Oct). The winner will be awarded a cash prize, training that addresses any specific needs they may have, mentorship, and access to business contacts along with excellent exposure to other businesses and potential customers through testing their product or service at the V&A, if relevant. If you are based in Southern Africa (Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, Zimbabwe) and have developed an innovative solution that meets the definition of circularity, and have at least a prototype ready for testing, we encourage you to make use of this opportunity to grow and develop your network and your business. Applications close on 13 September 2024. Be sure to visit https://lnkd.in/dgNmSchW to check your eligibility and enter today! The Umbilo River winds through residential and industrial areas, as well as nature reserves, before eventually flowing into the ocean through the port of Durban. With the rainy season approaching, the first heavy rains could wash this pollution straight into Durban’s Harbour. We’ve brought in a few extra hands to help the Umbilo Team tackle the buildup and prevent it from ending up in the harbour. It’s an everyday challenge as it keeps on coming, but every bit we can intercept makes a difference. This hidden pollution builds up silently, out of the public’s view. It's a daily challenge. We have bought in some additional teams to focus on the current build-up in the Umbilo River. We are excited to share the results of the team's efforts. Parley for the Oceans Brownie Points Social Employment Fund

South Africa has approximately 90,000 reclaimers who play a crucial role in combating climate change through waste management. Research from 2021 shows they divert 51% of post-consumer paper and packaging from landfills, directly contributing to the recycling economy and reducing carbon emissions. In the first half of this year, our collaboration with reclaimers in the greater Durban area has made the following impact: - Communities Serviced: 13 - Reclaimers Benefited: 40 - Income Injected into Reclamation Efforts: R75,000 By supporting the informal economy, we not only prevent a substantial amount of plastic from reaching our rivers but also play a vital role in reducing the environmental footprint. These efforts are essential in protecting our natural resources and mitigating the effects of climate change, while also enhancing the quality of life for those involved. We’re excited to continue building relationships with reclaimers and amplifying our impact in the second half of the year. Parley for the Oceans Fedgroup HUNT Properties Oceanic Global
