The Charity Ball ‘24 The date has been set for the most anticipated fundraising event of the Surgical Society calendar, the Charity Ball. Attendees can expect a glamorous and festive evening in support of the Groote Schuur Hospital Trust’s “Emergency Funds for Emergency Surgery” project. Groote Schuur Hospital has faced extensive challenges in fulfilling the demand for emergency surgical procedures, as a result of extenuating funding restrictions. Despite stifling circumstances, Groote Schuur Hospital nevertheless conducted over 6,000 emergency operations - a large proportion of which suffered delays due to aforementioned resource limitations. The Emergency Funds for Emergency Surgery scheme intends to alleviate restrictions on emergency surgeries by increasing surgical capacity, thereby reducing waiting times and improving patient outcomes. The initiative plans to add 70 additional emergency theatre lists annually, which will accommodate an additional 200-220 emergency surgeries. The generosity and philanthropy of our donors and attendees will directly benefit the Emergency Funds for Emergency Surgery, empowering Groote Schuur Hospital to perform such life-saving surgical interventions. The Surgical Society is eager to share more details of the Charity Ball in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the society invites you to explore more about the Emergency Funds for Emergency Surgery at this link: https://www.gshtrust.co.za.
