  • The Woolies Women in Tech committee attended the Women in Tech South Africa International Women’s Day conference - serving as a powerful reminder of the strength in community and shared experiences. Women in Tech International's goal is to empower 5 million women and girls by 2030, and our internal WIT team hopes to contribute towards this goal 🚀 Some of the panel topics of interest included “The role of empowering Africa’s inclusive Digital Economy” and “AI and Web3 for Good: Driving impact and inclusion”. Speakers reiterated the importance of driving positive change and giving people a voice – using technology to drive good outcomes. The event celebrated women, in support of women, and leading with passion and purpose.   Woolies CIO, Dr Christie Koorts, attended the event in support of International Women’s Day. “This was an event of innovation, connection and action. It was a testament to being a part of a group who are passionate about technology and empowerment. I look forward to hosting our next Woolies Women in Tech event soon, as we continue to bridge the gender gap in the field of STEM.”

  • Today is World Social Justice Day - an opportunity to reflect on what we, as Woolies, are doing to create access, diversity, inclusion and a culture of belonging and acceptance – leaving no one behind. As an employer, we've ensured our internal minimum wage is significantly higher than the legislated minimum wage and we've seen over 900 employees benefit from learnerships. In our communities, we've donated R816 million worth of quality surplus food to those who need it most, and allocated almost R30 million towards food security projects. We are also passionate about developing small businesses, and our procurement support to SMMEs has risen 42% to R4 billion over the last year. Youth-owned businesses, in particular, were a focus for us last year and we granted over R2 million in cash to young South African entrepreneurs. WCellar's strategy addresses this misconception by maintaining premium quality while offering enhanced convenience." Have you tried our new range of canned wine? We'd love to hear your thoughts.
