DoH defines the strategy for the health system, monitors and analyses the health status of the population and performance of the system. In addition DoH shapes the regulatory framework for the health system, inspects against regulations, enforce standards, and encourages adoption of world – class best practices and performance targets by all healthcare service providers in the Emirate. DoH also drives programs to increase awareness and adoption of healthy living standards among the residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in addition to regulating scope of services, premiums and reimbursement rates of the health system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. DoH provides a wide range of services targeting Healthcare professionals, insurance companies, investors and the entire Abu Dhabi Community. Its services include issuing healthcare professionals licensing & examination as well as licensing insurance companies and Third Part Administrators to work in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In addition DoH provides investors with necessary data and statistics on the healthcare landscape in the Emirate for better business decision making. Based on Abu Dhabi’s public health priorities, DoH drives programs to increase awareness and adoption of healthy living among Abu Dhabi residents through various public health campaigns and initiatives. To name few: “DoH Cancer Wave”, “Weqaya program”, “Eat Right & Get Active” and many more.

In line with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security's decision to grant a two-month grace period starting from 1st of September 2024 for violators of the country's entry and residence regulations to adjust their status, the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi announces a waiver of health insurance fines for violators, provided their requests for status adjustment are approved by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security's.
