The World Bank has said that over 3 billion tons of minerals and metals will be needed to deploy wind, solar and geothermal power, as well as energy storage, required to achieve a below 2°C future. But before we get to that point, these elements need to be mined out of the ground. Easier said than done. The annual West Africa Mining Security Conference brings together mining companies, security practitioners and government to discuss the rapidly changing regional context across the Sahel and implications for mining and investment. The importance of industry-government partnerships in keeping mining operations safe and sustainable is always a key theme of the conference and provides Austrade Middle East, Africa and Pakistan | Australian Trade and Investment Commission and our clients the chance to talk deeper in how we can support Australian mining companies to continue to succeed. With 50 Australian mining companies operating in South Africa, around 35 in Tanzania and the rest across the Sahel in countries like Guinea and Ghana. Australian mining companies play a constructive role in Africa's rise, bringing Australian innovation, Australian ingenuity and the world-class METS training, services and technology to the African mining industry. For assistance with mining equipment technology or services exports to Africa - please reach out to the team. #mining #ghana #womeninmining #METS

#Australia is a leading global education powerhouse with some of the world’s best facilities and educators, providing local and international students with a range of quality study options. Promoting the nation’s world class education, Australian universities participated in a range of activities in the #UAE supported by Austrade over the last month. Our Consul General and General Manager Bryony Hilless (EMPA. GDip. BA.) highlighted the world class quality of Australian Higher Education at the Destination Western Australia event hosted by Invest and Trade Western Australia. The event brought together educational leaders, experts and representatives from UAE and Australia to discuss on how collaboration in the International Education Sector, unlocks global opportunities. Our education lead Zareen Hussain had the privilege to address distinguished Emirati students at the Hamdan Bin Mohamad Scholarship program orientation day. In collaboration with IDP Education Ltd, the Austrade team engaged with the scholarship awardees and provided an overview of the exciting student life in Australia. The Middle East and Africa education team also supported several education agent roadshows across UAE, #SaudiArabia, #Pakistan and #Africa markets. Agent roadshows are an excellent opportunity to raise Australia’s profile as a study destination and highlight the quality, diversity, visionary teaching and learning systems in Australia. Education is an essential pillar of the growing bilateral relationship between the UAE and Australia. With Australia successfully concluding negotiations on a CEPA with the UAE, there are more opportunities for expanding educational exports and deepening international research engagements in the future. An Australian education sets students apart as future-fit, with an international outlook and perspective, able to make a strong contribution to global leadership roles into the future. Around 20,000 courses and career-oriented programs are available in Australia's 1,100 institutions. A new trade agreement with the UAE will provide a gateway for Australian exporters to diversify into the Middle East. The Australia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEPA) is a great deal for Australian exporters. Over 99% of Australian products will enter the UAE tariff free, resulting in estimated tariff savings of A$135 million in the first year, rising to A$160 million per year once the agreement is fully implemented. 🤝 Two-way investment between Australia and the UAE totaled A$20.6 billion in 2023, and this figure is expected to increase significantly. The agreement will deliver real benefits for Australian farmers and food producers, with estimated tariff savings of A$50 million per year for our food and agriculture exports. The agreement is also set to encourage two-way investment, including in sectors that underpin our energy transition, such as critical minerals. Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell said, "Under this trade agreement, Aussie exports are expected to increase by $678 million per year.” Read the media release: https://lnkd.in/g5cfNZtz Read more on the trade agreement: https://lnkd.in/gSjgJpSG

With #Australia successfully concluding negotiations on a CEPA with the United Arab Emirates this week, it was a bonus for our Consul-General and Ambassador to run into a very key stakeholder in the negotiations - H.E Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi. As the UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani is responsible for overseeing UAE's development of non-oil foreign trade, the expansion of global trade partnerships and increasing UAE exports. The Australia-UAE CEPA will streamline trade processes, eliminate tariffs on a wide range of goods and services, create new opportunities for investment, and encourage private-sector collaboration in priority sectors for both countries.
