UNIDO’s flagship programme on clean energy innovation.

Info

The Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility, managed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), is a new large-scale, global programme focused on accelerating the commercialization of innovative clean energy solutions in developing countries. About UNIDO: UNIDO is a specialized agency of the United Nations with a unique mandate to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development. UNIDO´s mandate is reflected in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9: “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”, but UNIDO’s activities contribute to all the SDGs. UNIDO provides support to its Member States through four mandated functions: technical cooperation, action-oriented research and policy-advisory services, normative standards-related activities, and fostering partnerships for knowledge and technology transfer. Through the programme, UNIDO focuses on providing grant support for “lighthouse” pilot demonstration projects, which have the potential to bring transformational impacts in developing countries. It currently focuses on thematic areas that are off-track for facilitating clean energy transitions in developing countries: critical minerals, clean hydrogen, smart energy and industrial decarbonization. The A2D Facility contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly on climate action (SDG 13), no poverty (SDG 1), and industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9).
