Creating future fit boards requires a multi-layered approach as revealed from our research, case studies & from the insights our terrific panellists in Sydney & Melbourne. 'Multi-layered' for the work needed to prepare boards, chairs to champion the process, recruitment processes to consider, reflect, embrace & onboard effectively new, relevant skills & expertise. Our Green Shoots of Change article & video interview series launched in Melbourne yesterday with the support & ongoing partnership with our collaborators, Deloitte. “Bold Moves in the Board Room”, our original research piece highlighted opportunities for shaping a ‘future fit’ board by taking a wider view to the skills and experience to complement more traditional board skillsets. The recent “Green Shoots” provided yet another opportunity to go deeper into the experience and insights. Our change champions demonstrated the benefits of encouraging and sponsoring a greater range of skillsets that also serves to breed diversity in thinking and also, by their very nature, bring greater representation to the ‘board ecosystem’. Our Melbourne panel featured key insights & experiences from Sam Martin-Williams FAICD FGIA, Tom Imbesi and Michael Ullmer AO to illustrate the benefits of changing mindsets & greater sponsorship of change. Passion and governance experience were table-stakes for the latest appointment to the Heart of the Nation Australia board in 2023.
