AfPA recognises the Minister’s ongoing dedication to advancing WA’s transport infrastructure and commends her commitment to sustainable and innovative road solutions that support the state’s economic and environmental goals. Under her leadership, Western Australia has continued to prioritise safer, more efficient, and more resilient road networks, benefiting communities and industries across the state. As the national peak body for the flexible pavements industry, AfPA looks forward to continuing its strong collaboration with the Minister and the WA Government to drive best-practice policies and industry advancements. AfPA's guidelines seek to protect road construction workers from bitumen fumes and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) through comprehensive risk management. These AfPA guidelines focus on reducing exposure onsite during road maintenance and construction outlining workplace exposure standards and implements the hierarchy of controls—from elimination strategies to engineering solutions and proper PPE. With practical guidance on monitoring protocols, health surveillance requirements, and regulatory compliance, members can effectively safeguard workers while meeting their legislative obligations across all Australian jurisdictions. The latest report on the HYMIX Road, Gaven (#QLD) Pavement Rehabilitation Project is now available! This report provides a comprehensive review and assessment of the performance of a set of trial asphalt mixes associated with a project funded by Austroads in collaboration with the City of Gold Coast (CoGC). The project aimed to investigate the feasibility of using rejuvenators to assist with achieving higher percentages of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) in an asphalt surface layer.
