This Halloween, there's something scarier than ghosts and ghouls haunting young Australians— the fear of not being able to access essential mental health support. In the grip of a cost-of-living crisis, too many people are finding mental health care simply out of reach. The Greens’ plan for free and unlimited mental healthcare under Medicare could be a lifeline, lifting the burden for those forced to delay or forgo vital support due to cost. With nearly half of us likely to experience mental health challenges in our lifetime, this initiative offers more than just relief—it’s a lifeline. ARACY supports a universal mental health system that’s accessible for all, so no one has to face their fears alone. Let’s make mental healthcare a priority for every Australian. ARACY applauds the Government co-investing with leading philanthropic partners to establish Partnerships for Local Action and Community Empowerment (PLACE)—a new, independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to addressing complex, local issues like youth development, health, education, and early years support. With a $19.3 million commitment, matched by Minderoo Foundation, Paul Ramsay Foundation, The Ian Potter Foundation, BRYAN FOUNDATION, and Dusseldorp Forum, PLACE will work alongside communities to create programs designed to meet each community’s unique needs, ensuring lasting impact - just as we’ve highlighted in our recent report on the transformative impact of place-based approaches. Together with The Investment Dialogue for Australia's Children (IDAC), ARACY is dedicated to building a strong, collaborative platform for community-driven initiatives that address complex issues like youth development, education, and early childhood. Through PLACE, IDAC, and evidence-based support, we’re helping to create a future where all children and communities can thrive. “Place matters. Community matters.” says ARACY Lead, Operations Diana Harris. “The way government and philanthropy choose to work with communities makes or breaks the success of their work.” Read the media release: https://lnkd.in/gPuHDtiy Read the ARACY paper on 'Place-based Initiatives in Australia: An Overview': https://lnkd.in/g8mHCRMR Jim Chalmers Amanda Rishworth Kristy Muir Simon Factor Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI)

Did you know? ➡ 1 in 10 young people were homeless in the past year. ➡ 58% of homeless clients needed health and medical services. ➡ 42% of homeless youth couldn’t afford essentials like medicine, food, and transport. 💬 Pathways to Stability: Addressing Child and Adolescent Homelessness Homelessness among children and young people is a grave issue, yet it’s one we can prevent. Facing homelessness significantly compromises their safety, health, and future potential. The Australian Homelessness Cohort Consortium is leading an innovative effort to merge population-based longitudinal studies, offering new insights into the pathways into and out of homelessness, from childhood through adulthood. Join us tomorrow for an insightful webinar where Associate Professor Jess Heerde will present preliminary findings from this research, showing how data can be a powerful tool in tackling child and adolescent homelessness. We are also excited to welcome Kate Colvin, CEO of Homelessness Australia, who will share her perspective on the importance of this research and the urgent need for further action. The panel discussion and Q&A session will be moderated by Professor Susan Sawyer, Director of the Centre for Adolescent Health at Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI), who brings her deep expertise in adolescent health. 📅 Date: October 23 📍 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gkVGD2Vy Join us as we explore data-driven solutions to address this critical issue. #YouthHealth #Homelessness Mission Australia The Big Issue Australia Melbourne City Mission (MCM) The Salvation Army St Vincent de Paul Society Australia The Smith Family Australian Red Cross Youth Off The Streets Homelessness NSW Lighthouse Foundation Wesley Mission StreetSmart Australia Kids Under Cover Good Shepherd Services

🌟 Celebrating Children’s Week 2024 🌟 This year’s theme, based on Article 24 of the United NationsConvention on the Rights of the Child, highlights the importance of a clean and safe environment for every child’s health and wellbeing. At ARACY, we believe that creating such an environment is essential for children to feel valued, loved, and safe, one of the six key domains of The Nest framework. When children feel secure in their surroundings—where their health is cared for, their voices are heard, and they are cherished—they have the foundation to thrive. Children’s Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate this, while advocating for every child's right to grow up in a world where they are supported, protected, and empowered to reach their full potential. Join ARACY as we continue to work toward a future where all children are nurtured in environments that allow them to feel safe, loved, and able to flourish.
