The tipping off offence will change on 31 March 2025. We have released new guidance to help businesses understand the changes to the tipping off offence. The changes focus on whether disclosing information would or could prejudice an investigation, rather than the mere disclosure of information itself. At AUSTRAC, fighting transnational financial crime can take many forms. Most recently, we hosted workshops for our financial intelligence counterparts in Laos and Cambodia, through Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's #MekongAustraliaPartnership. The focus: strategic report writing and communications. Participants learned about the best methods for carrying out financial assessments, analysing case studies and communicating their findings to senior authorities, so they can detect and stop criminal activity. Effective communications and good quality financial intelligence are vital to fighting serious crimes and money laundering in the #Mekong region.
