Thirty-six organisations will share in more than $575,000 in funding under Batch 2 of the 2024-25 round of the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program. The funding will support: • thirty community projects such as local events, reflection gardens and public murals • six major projects, including museum exhibits and constructing or restoring memorial spaces. While these projects are diverse in nature, they share a common goal. Each one will preserve and commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australia's servicemen and women. Thank you to all who applied for your dedication to honouring veterans and families. 📷: David Loxton, Terry Bywaters, James Bennett, Jeff Gibbons and Peter Clarke were on hand to witness the unveiling of the memorial bench at Mount Benson, which was made possible through an STS Commemorative Grant provided to the Robe RSL Sub-Branch. The seat is dedicated to those who enlisted from the Mount Benson area and is designed to encourage the community to sit down and reflect upon the service of the brave locals who served our nation.

On this International Women's Day, let's wind it back a couple of weeks to last month's Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025! #ICYMI the women of Invictus Australia claimed 22 of the 36 medals, with all 8 women winning at least two medals each! Australian Army veteran Sue Osborn brought home three medals, but when asked what success at the Invictus Games looked like, it had nothing to do with medals, it was about being 'part of a team again.' Sue enlisted in 1993 and served as a medic in the Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste. She later served in the Royal Australian Artillery as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operator in Afghanistan. Sport was a huge part of Sue's life, and she represented the ADF in Rugby Union, Aussie Rules, Touch Football and Soccer. After Sue medically separated from the Army in 2021, her service-related injuries prevented her from competing, until she found adaptive sports. 'Sport has only just come back into my life since joining the Adaptive Sports Program,' she said. 'It’s reinvigorated a competitive spark and personal drive to be better every day.' The triumphs of Sue and all her teammates are worth celebrating, with or without a podium. 📷: Defence Australia | Invictus Games 2025 Team Australia competitors (L-R), Jo Lovell, Sergeant Lahey, Tricia Reynolds and Sue Osborn.

Their name liveth for evermore. Yesterday the Office of Australian War Graves and the 12th/40th Battalion conducted reinterment ceremonies for three First World War veterans in Hobart, Tasmania. Privates John Anderson and Henry Way were reinterred in the Cornelian Bay Cemetery. Private Edward Ruffels was reinterred in the Hobart War Cemetery. Last year, the three soldier’s remains were exhumed from the grounds of The Hutchins School. We thank the Tasmanian Government, The Hutchins School, and the archaeologists who handled the soldier’s remains with the care and dignity they deserve. Edward, Henry and John are now at peace. The Office of Australian War Graves will care for them in perpetuity. We will remember them. Lest we forget.
