Don’t Let Your Project Get Caught! The Unfair Contract Term legislation invalidates certain unfair contract terms and creates penalties for businesses that use unfair terms in their contracts. These reforms, effective from 10 November 2023, significantly expand the types of contracts caught by the legislation and proscribe increased and additional penalties. I had a pleasant evening today in Doha with Prof Indrawansa Samaratunga event greatly arranged by The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors Qatar chapter What a fabulous night discussing contract drafting and the ethics to follow. Prof. Sam , with great humility yet remarkable detail, explained the essentials of proper contract drafting, emphasizing professional ethics and the importance of fair dealings with contractors and subcontractors. It truly opened my mind to think deeper about these crucial aspects. Meanwhile, AIQS President Andrew Brady shared a thought provoking insight: "University graduation gives us only 10% of knowledge, while 90% comes from work experience and CPDs, something many of us tire of, but it remains essential." Prof. Sam showered his knowledge like a sharp light, illuminating the complexities of contract drafting in Middle east region and ethical considerations. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from his wisdom, though time felt too short there was so much more to absorb from him. I must express my gratitude to AIQS Qatar, Prof. Indrawansa Samaratunga , and President @Andrew Brady for such an insightful and thought provoking session.
