Our Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary, on Danggali and Barkandji Country in NSW, has had a major #GlowUp in the last 30 years. 💫 At the sanctuary there’s a photo album that documents projects conducted over the past three decades. Our sanctuary team have recreated some of the shots to show how the infrastructure at Scotia has developed and/or changed since the 90s. Most of these photos were taken between 1993 and 1997, showcasing the reconstruction of the shearer’s quarters, the old perimeter fence, installation of the Ennisvale phone tower, and how time has passed for the Ennisvale and Tararra Homesteads. The first photo is the original, the second the present-day comparison. 📷 AWC #AWC #AustralianWildlifeConservancy #BeforeAndAfter #GlowUp

Meet Sam, an AWC intern currently working with our teams in Western Australia 🌿 “The opportunity to immerse yourself fully in applied, science-led conservation and work with some of Australia’s most threatened fauna is invaluable. The skills you learn are key to a career in ecology and conservation and will hold you in good stead going forward. The drive and passion AWC staff have for their work is contagious, and I’m so lucky to have had this experience! Give a lifeline to endangered wildlife this Christmas ❤️ Right now, nature is in trouble. A changing climate is no longer a future threat - it is happening now and heightening the impacts of bushfires, feral animals and weeds on Australia's precious wildlife. Our pragmatic approach to conservation and science-informed programs are making a difference, helping species adapt to a changing climate and protecting them into the future. Your support can help too. 🙏 Find out how 👉 https://lnkd.in/gH7RVxX4 📷 The Numbat - an iconic Australian species under threat. J Palmer/AWC #AWC #AustralianWildlife #Conservation #Christmas #Donate

Rain + warmer weather = a very weedy problem! 🌿❌ Australia’s biodiversity is being choked by invasive weeds. More than 2,700 alien plants are displacing and threatening native species and transforming ecosystems. Weeds have a range of impacts on vegetation and ecological processes – some, especially the fast-growing grasses, can greatly increase fire hazards. All compete with native plants and can significantly degrade habitat. Between March 2023 – 2024, AWC teams treated or removed over 92,000 weeds, resulting in more than 14,000 hectares of habitat in recovery from weed infestation. Find out more about our weed management strategy and how we’re tackling invasive species 👉 https://lnkd.in/gMA8wqsX 📸 W Lawler, A Howe, B Leue/AWC #AWC #AustralianWildlifeConservaqncy #WeedStrategy #Weeds #InvasivePlants #Weeds #InvasiveSpecies #BiodiversityInCrisis

Climate change poses a huge threat to Australia's biodiversity, but there's still so much we don't know about our unique wildlife. We're partnering with UNSW researchers to study how Numbats - a species vulnerable to extreme heat - adapt to hot weather. Will they be able to find enough food and water in a changing climate? Find out more about the study in our FREE conservation magazine Wildlife Matters – which is available on our website now 👉 https://lnkd.in/gn7t2H33 📷 S Mulvena, W Lawler/AWC #AWC #AustralianWildlifeConservancy #ClimateChange #WildlifeMatters #FreeMagazine #Science #Conservation #Australia #Numbats #CollaborationForConservation #WorldNumbatDay

Australia's hauntingly beautiful Ghost Bat wishes you a happy Halloween!! 👻🦇 Named for its silvery fur and near-translucent wings, Australia's only carnivorous bat is a veritable spook. It homes in on prey with uncanny precision, armed with ears twice the size of its head. Sleeping budgies are common targets, which it snatches from perches, kills with sharp bites to the head and neck, and brings back to feeding caves or ledges to devour, bones and all. It's this habit of total consumption that earned the species its 'false vampire bat' title! 🧛♀️🌕🦇 Learn more about this powerful predator 👉 https://lnkd.in/gXe4V8if 📸 N Hanrahan, W Lawler, G Barnett/AWC #AWC #AustralianWildlife #GhostBat #HappyHalloween #Halloween2024 #Bat #BatConservation

From desert to decorated – Kalamurina Wildlife Sanctuary in South Australia has turned into a riot of brightly coloured wildflowers 🌱 After late winter rains saw the sanctuary soaked, leaving more standing water than in the past three years, the desert wildflowers have transformed the landscape. Seas of Poached Egg Daisies and Senecio, along with other arid species, stretch across the area, painting it in hues of yellow and white. 📷 A Van Doorn/AWC #AWC #AustralianWildlifeSanctuary #DesertWildflowers #Spring #Kalamurina #SouthAustralia #AustralianWildflowers #Wildflowers

I spy, you spy, we all spy a Numbat! Visitors at Yookamurra Wildlife Sanctuary recently encountered a small, striped Numbat during a Nature Festival SA guided walk. “Oohh’s” and “Aahh’s” were heard amongst the amazed group as the Numbat galloped by the sanctuary’s homestead. The walking groups also encountered Geckoes, Burrowing Bettongs and Microbats! 📷 P Barnes, A Hendry/AWC #AWC #SANatureFestival #Yookamurra #WildlifeSanctuary #Numbat #WildlifePhotography #Wildlife #NatureWalk
