A NFP advancing equality in the Australian Music Industry

About us

Australian Women in Music (AWM) is a not for profit charity committed to advancing gender equality across all areas of the Australian Music Industry. The inaugural Australian Women in Music Awards & Conference (AWMA) was founded in 2018 by Executive Music Producer Vicki Gordon. The event was a watershed moment creating an inclusive, diverse platform to acknowledge women as vital, essential contributors to the future growth of the sector by celebrating their achievements across all areas of industry. AWM works with and supports female First Nations, multi-cultural, non-binary and GNC artists, musicians and music practitioners, female artists from Regional and Remote communities, students, disabled artists and elders to build networks which encourage meaningful connections. Our goal is to amplify positive role models to address gender biases, break down cultural barriers and remove negative stereotypes which have prevented women from succeeding for decades. We provide a safe and supportive environment for emerging practitioners working in male dominated areas such as technical production, audio engineering and lighting design. AWMA 2024 will be presented over two days in Brisbane on 1 – 2 October. This years Conference will provide an inclusive platform to highlight some of the critical pathways required to build an equitable and inclusive culture for the future health of the sector.
