What a week for our project32 athletes We're so proud of the incredible efforts from Abbey Harkin OLY and Meg Harris OAM who brought their A-game to the Australian Olympic Trials this past week, showcasing some of the incredible talent we have in Australia. While the outcome may not have been as hoped for Abbey, her dedication and fierce competitiveness were on full display all week. Abbey's experience and leadership will undoubtedly continue to be a valuable asset to the Australian swimming and project32 community. For Meg, the trials marked her second Olympic bid and she impressed everyone with a personal best time in the 100m freestyle heats. Her swim in the finals earned her a well-deserved spot on the Australian 4x100m freestyle relay team and an individual spot for the 50m freestyle. Meet Meg Harris OAM Meg has been making waves, both in the swimming pool and the hearts of her hometown supporters. As a promising young athlete becoming part of a game-changing program like project32 takes some of the pressure off just a week out from the Australian Olympic trials which will be the most challenging to date. “For many swimmers, this year will be their last. After Tokyo, so many people decided to hold out for one more Olympics, so those athletes will be giving it their all before they retire,” said Harris. Her story began on Mackay’s Eimeo Beach where surf lifesaving triggered the chain of events that would lead her to an Olympic gold and bronze at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Meg faces a reality shared by many athletes - directing her time and energy toward training and trials while considering what life looks like after a competitive career. “The partnership with Auswide Bank Ltd alleviates the pressure of thinking about life after swimming so I can put all my focus into training and competition in the short term, with the comfort of knowing there is something for me when I finish competing,” she said.
