Construction of Bioretention Basin No.10 is progressing at Western Sydney International Airport 🛫   As part of the airport’s sustainable stormwater management system, Basin 10 sits at the end of the runway to form part of the sitewide system to capture and treat stormwater runoff.   The batters underwent an extensive revegetation process with soil placement, amelioration, hydroseeding, hydromulch, and ongoing maintenance.   So far, works to the biobasin involved creating internal access tracks, subsoil pipework installation, and geosynthetic clay liners.   Currently, the team are evenly distributing filter media into the biobasin cells with a rock slinger.    The next phase involves planting native grasses and ground cover to establish a dense natural barrier. The barrier will slow water flow while absorbing nutrients and potential residual pollutants.   When complete, Basin 10 will effectively buffer surface water quality, while regulating peak flow rates of stormwater runoff.
