About us

Bowdens Silver is the largest, undeveloped silver project in Australia and one of the largest globally. Located near the village of Lue, approximately 30 km east of Mudgee in central New South Wales, Australia, the project comprises mineral tenements covering 2,007 square kilometres (496,000 acres) across the mineralised Rylstone Volcanics on the western edge of the Great Dividing Range. Since its discovery in the 1980s the project has had several owners and been subject to extensive exploration and development studies. Its appeal is in no small part due to its proximity to nearby towns with access to infrastructure, water supply, the power grid and a highly skilled, local workforce. In June 2016, the project was bought by Silver Mines Limited after a downturn in the silver price saw the previous owners cease operations. A new and invigorated recommencement of activities is now under way and plans are in place for a more condensed and enhanced development. Our viable farming operations will continue alongside the development of the mine and together these integrated activities will bring many benefits to the district by way of direct employment, the supply of support industries, economic investment into the local communities and support for local development, educational and sponsorship initiatives.

BOWDENS AGRICULTURE Yesterday, we hosted a cattle judging workshop for the Kandos High School show team, led by our Farm Manager, James, and Sara. It was a great chance for students to learn more about cattle selection, focusing on key traits to look for when judging and building a solid foundation in livestock evaluation. Students also practiced explaining their decisions in a public speaking session, helping them improve their communication skills and gain confidence. By working directly with livestock and receiving expert feedback, they gained insights that go beyond the classroom, preparing them for future careers in agriculture, whether in farming, livestock management, or broader roles in the industry.  #bowdensfarm #agriculture #bowdenssilver #publicspeaking #cattlejudging #workshop

BOWDENS SILVER PROJECT UPDATE - Bowdens Silver remains committed to The Project. Friday’s decision by the NSW Court of Appeal to uphold Bingman Landcare’s Appeal has been labelled disappointing by Bowdens Silver, however, the Company advises that it is fully committed to the progression of the Project including obtaining all relevant permits and development consents required to develop and commence production of the Project. A split judicial decision focused on the approval of a potential power transmission line to the project which was intended to be assessed through a separate planning approval pathway, and the company has been examining a number of options to provide power requirements for the mine site. The rest of the project was subject to a comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement process. The independent umpire, the NSW Independent Planning Commission approved the project and at the time noted that it was “satisfied that the Project can meet all relevant requirements for protecting human health and safety and that on balance, the Application is in the public interest.” We have been part of this community for many years now, and we know that whilst there are some detractors, the region supports a responsible mining industry that in turn provides significant economic and social benefits, including from this project with the creation of over 320 jobs during construction and 220 ongoing jobs. We are very aware that the decision handed down by the Court of Appeal will create uncertainty within the broader, supportive community around the region. We will be in regular consultation with our stakeholders to reaffirm our support across all areas of community engagement and existing sponsorship programs. From a state perspective, silver and zinc are both part of the NSW Government’s Critical Minerals and High-Tech Metals Strategy which are vital components in the transition to a decarbonised future. The successful development of the Bowdens Silver Project forms part of a much larger picture for the future success of the region and the State. A fantastic evening was had at the 2024 NSW Mining HSEC Awards, hosted by the NSW Minerals Council. The HSEC Awards Dinner brought together industry representatives to celebrate excellence, innovation, and best practices in health, safety, environment, and community initiatives. Bowdens Silver representative Hamish Russell presented the Safety Excellence Award to Aaron Johansen, Chief Executive Officer from Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group - Leading an Empowered Culture of Safety. Congratulations to their outstanding work! The two-day conference provided an excellent opportunity to listen to inspiring speakers, participate in engaging sessions on professional development, and connect with industry partners. Together, we explored innovative strategies and best practices to enhance operational safety, promote workforce well-being, minimise environmental impact, and strengthen community engagement. The event was packed with valuable insights and key takeaways that we are excited to share with the team and integrate these learnings into our business practices. @nswmineralscouncil #miningnsw #HSEC2024 #bowdenssilver

BOWDENS SILVER PROJECT UPDATE Work continues on various aspects regarding the progression of the Bowdens Silver Project. As previously communicated, a range of Management Plans required as part of the Development Consent are being developed in conjunction with various expert consultants and in communication with stakeholders, including the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI), the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), and the Community Consultative Committee, among others. On ground, ecological surveys have been occurring across our proposed biodiversity offset areas. This is an integral component required to establish Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements under the NSW Government Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS). Survey work is conducted by Biodiversity Assessment Method accredited ecologists. Areas that meet the stringent requirements of the BOS will be set aside in perpetuity and form part of the Biodiversity Offsetting required by the development consent and importantly, provide an area adjacent to the project for native flora and fauna protection and regeneration. Separately, the Project Optimisation that incorporates all aspects of the mining operation is nearing completion. All key components of the Optimisation are expected to be completed in September. Once the results are compiled, they will be presented to the Silver Mines Limited Board to inform their final investment decision. In other news, our parent company, Silver Mines Limited recently announced they had secured $30.2 million in funding via agreement with several well-known industry investors. Our Managing Director, Jo Battershill commented that “This funding is a significant milestone for Silver Mines as we continue to advance our Bowdens Silver Project. The financial support underscores the strong potential of our project and the confidence in our team……We look forward to leveraging this investment to accelerate our development and exploration activities and bring the Bowdens Silver Project to fruition, ultimately delivering significant value to our shareholders.” #bowdenssilver #miningnsw #biodiversityoffsetting #projectoptimisation

STRONG DRILLING RESULTS CONTINUE AT THE BOWDENS SILVER DEPOSIT Silver Mines Limited recently announced the results of infill drilling at the Bowdens silver deposit. The drilling program, which targeted under-sampled areas within the Bowdens Silver 2023 Mineral Resource Estimate, revealed significant grades and thicknesses of mineralisation. These results will likely enhance future pit designs. Additionally, extensions were made to the Southern Gold Zone of up to 80 metres vertically and 130 metres laterally into the planned open pit area. Importantly, the highest-grade one metre gold sample was returned in this drilling of 17.95g/t Au. BOWDENS SILVER PROJECT UPDATE – Natural Background Study Over the last few months, the Bowdens Silver team has been working alongside a number of experts in developing a range of Management Plans as prescribed in the Development Consent. The Development Consent includes a range of conditions that require Management Plans to be developed to cover aspects including but not limited to surface and groundwater, air quality, noise, traffic, heritage and social impacts. In addition to the Development Consent requirements, Bowdens Silver has elected to voluntarily conduct a detailed Natural Background Study to fully document and understand the existing geochemical characteristics of the region prior to any mining operations. Some information obtained during the Natural Background Study will complement other study requirements of the Development Consent. To ensure scientific accuracy and independence, Bowdens Silver has engaged the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to design and deliver the Natural Background Study of the proposed Bowdens mine site, areas of Lue, and the nearby region. This study will provide the Company, the Government, and community with independently sourced data of the natural background geochemical patterns. Comprehensive environmental monitoring onsite and in surrounding areas has been occurring since 2012 and will continue through construction, operations and post closure. However, establishing the natural background geochemical characteristics at Bowdens, in Lue, and the surrounding region is key to understanding and measuring the mine's predicted environmental impacts. This includes rock outcrops, soil, stream sediments, surface water, and groundwater. The Study will provide stakeholders, community members, Government agencies and regulators, and the Company a detailed understanding of the pre-mining concentrations and speciation of mineral elements and metals. Bowdens Silver has committed to conducting this study independently and transparently. The program will be designed and delivered by UNSW. Relevant Government agencies and the Community Consultative Committee will be provided the opportunity to review and comment on the design of the Study. When the Study commences, results of sampling analysis will be directly shared with relevant Government agencies and the Community Consultative Committee. It is anticipated that the Natural Background Study will be completed by mid-2025.
