Designed by Buchan with Mather Architecture, Scotts Crossing has transformed a vehicle-dominated roadway in Canberra’s CBD into a vibrant, pedestrian-focused public realm, prioritising social connection and community engagement. Inspired by the historic Molonglo River, the design features sweeping ETFE canopies, lush landscaping, and enhanced building facades that frame the revitalised area. With traffic diverted underground, the space is now a thriving, year-round destination, strengthening the connection between Braddon and the CBD. "Scotts Crossing has transformed our business and the surrounding shopping centre, creating a vibrant pedestrian street that seamlessly integrates retail, hospitality, and community spaces. The project reimagines the customer experience, enhancing foot traffic and fostering a dynamic environment day and night where people can gather, shop, and dine." – Catherine Carmody, Investment Manager, QIC More on the project here https://lnkd.in/gG757p2Q Vector Foiltec Passage Projects 📷 Shaw Photography #buchan #design #urbandesign #retaildesign #architecture #masterplanning #community #canberra

This year IHG Hotels & Resorts' will open their first Australian dual-branded hotel, a Hotel Indigo and a Holiday Inn in Melbourne’s CBD. Designed by Buchan and located within the new Melbourne Walk development, Hotel Indigo draws on the vibrant history and colourful characters of early Melbourne, using the city’s stories to create a unique and engaging guest experience. “Buchan’s design for Hotel Indigo focuses on creating a bespoke, local experience with a strong sense of place. The result - a hotel that invites guests to connect with Melbourne’s rich history while enjoying a modern, immersive stay that reflects the true spirit of the location.” – Hayden Djakic Every element of the design reflects the neighbourhood’s heritage, from fabrics reminiscent of Sidney Myer’s original haberdashery business to nods to E.W. Cole’s ‘Emporium of Everything'. Furnishings and fittings reflect James Hosie’s taste for eastern opulence. These historical references are woven into the hotel’s interiors, seamlessly blending storytelling and discovery. Buchan is proud to be a part of the next phase in Chadstone’s continual evolution with the opening of the new fresh food precinct, ‘The Market Pavilion’, next month. Designed by Buchan in association with Woods Bagot, The Market Pavilion spans more than 26,500 square metres of retail area at ground level, with the newly constructed level above to house a range of services from childcare to health and wellness. The design and retail offer in The Market Pavilion combines the best of the modern fresh food marketplaces common in Europe and reflects the quality, variety, and elevated consumer experience which Chadstone is known for. The Market Pavilion has been designed to achieve a 5-Star Green Star rating (certified using the Design and Construct v1.3 tool) and net-zero operational emissions, supported by natural ventilation louvres—estimated to reduce energy consumption by 500,000kWh/year—along with Solar PV System and a dedicated Waste Management Plan to further minimise the precinct’s environmental footprint. For over three decades Buchan has worked alongside Gandel Group and Vicinity Centres on every major stage of masterplanning, retail planning and redevelopment of Chadstone site since 1984, supporting the unwavering vision to make Chadstone one of the top shopping destinations in the world. 📷 Vicinity Centres #buchan #vicinitycentres #design #architecture #interiordesign #masterplanning #experientialdesign #dining #retail #destinationcreation #melbourne
