Our vision is to enhance the sustainability and liveability of Australia’s cities and regions by moving people using bus and coach transportation. We aim to do this by representing the collective interests of our members and to assist them in promoting the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of bus and coach transport in Australia. We want to to ensure that the businesses in our industry are protected from poor government policy and to actively advocate for better and increased public transport and school services, growth in tour, charter, long distance and other commercial bus and coach services and increased infrastructure funding. Much of what we do is ensure that governments keep our moving people task top of mind when implementing policy decisions on transport, our cities and regions, and how money is spent. Our aim is to keep growing public transport so that buses and coaches move more passengers and provide more services, along with growing the tourism, charter and commercial side of bus and coach businesses. This has a direct impact on the profitability and viability of operators, manufacturers, component suppliers and professional services to the bus and coach industry. Daily, we're charged with making sure that the bus and coach industry continues to have a major role in national and state planning for our Australian communities, cities and regional centres. We also put a lot of effort into on-the-ground issues – both technical and operational – that impact the day-to-day business of bus operators, manufacturers and suppliers.

We have been working with the Australian and state and territory governments to resolve issues related to driver's safety screens. But we need more than screens to protect our drivers and ensure they have the safest workplace possible. We need legislation in every jurisdiction that gives bus drivers the same rights as other frontline workers who experience assault in the workplace including significant fines and jail time for perpetrators. From Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia: Climate-Related Financial Disclosures Now Mandatory Climate-Related Financial Disclosures Now Mandatory The Treasury Laws Amendment (Financial Market Infrastructure and Other Measures) Bill 2024 (the Bill) this week passed Parliament, making mandatory climate-related reporting law in Australia from 1 January 2025. While this only captures large entities initially, it will roll out to other businesses reporting under Chapter 2M of the Corporations Act 2001 over time. Importantly, businesses that are part of the supply chain for larger reporting entities may be asked questions about their own climate-related financial disclosures. The Corporations Act now includes climate-related financial disclosure as part of a new annual sustainability report, sitting alongside annual financial reports. This will include a climate statement containing the following: Any material climate-related financial risks or opportunities; Any metrics and targets relating to climate, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions; and Any information about the governance, strategy or risk management by the entity in relation to climate risks, opportunities, metrics and targets. Entities will only be required to disclose Scope 3 emissions from their second reporting year onwards. Excited to announce that next week's National Bus & Coach Show will feature a large contingent of vintage buses and coaches from Queensland's yesteryear, courtesy of our great friends at the Bus Industry Confederation! The show is free to attend and is being held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 September between 9.00am and 4.00pm. I am particularly looking forward to seeing the stark contrast between two-stroke Detroit diesel coaches and the latest zero emission low floor route buses!
