Our CEO Morgana Ryan FAICD and Director, International Programs and Operations Bianca Collier attended #ACFID2024 earlier this week in Sydney, and added CARE Australia's voice to the #SaferWorldforAll campaign. Aid agencies across Australia are calling for a rise to the aid budget, from it's current rate of 0.68% to 1% of the federal budget. We think that's only fair. Join us by emailing your MP today - visit saferworld.org.au to take action now. #DownUnderStepUp

Supporting women. Defeating poverty.
About us
CARE is an international humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring about lasting change to their communities. We are a non-religious and non-political Australian charity, working together with communities to provide emergency relief and address the underlying causes of poverty. We believe supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities.

CARE Australia is partnering with #SaferWorldforAll to call for an increase to Australia's aid budget. Australia is one of the least generous developed economies when it comes to aid. As people around the world need help more than ever, Australia’s aid has shrunk to just 0.68% of our federal budget. By increasing to the modest amount of 1% we can have a huge impact on people all over the world. Join us as we call for an increase in Australian aid. Visit saferworld.org.au to email your local MP and show your support. It’s time for Down Under to #stepup

Today, on the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, CARE Australia is shining a light on the ‘multiplier effect’, which recognises that when 1 woman rises, she brings 4 others with her. Decades of CARE’s experience from around the world demonstrates that, although women are the most impacted by poverty, conflict and disaster, they are also the key to overcoming it. Despite the adversities they face, it’s women who hold the solution to lift their families, communities and the world out of poverty. #genderequality #multipliereffect

Thank you to CARE Bangladesh for hosting a successful roundtable for the Australian Humanitarian Partnership 💡
The second DFAT-funded AHP Bangladesh CPPC Consortium Roundtable took place recently. Hosted at CARE Bangladesh, the session brought together participants both in person and virtually to review program progress and assess developments in the operating environment. Key discussions focused on the consortium’s priorities for 2025, highlighting critical issues such as localization, sustainability, social cohesion, and securing additional funding to address natural disasters. A lively plenary discussion and Q&A allowed for valuable contributions from all participants, guiding the next steps. Moving forward, the consortium remains committed to fostering collaboration and driving impactful change for the communities we serve. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this important work together! #DFAT #AHP #CPPC #CARE #CRO #PlanInternational #Oxfam #AHPConsortium #CoxsBazar #Australia #Bangladesh Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australian Humanitarian Partnership CARE Australia Oxfam Australia Oxfam in Bangladesh Plan International Australia Plan International Bangladesh

CARE International In Lebanon's Maya Andari spoke to Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News Breakfast this morning about the current situation in Lebanon and reiterated CARE's call for de-escalation of hostilities and unhindered access to humanitarian assistance for those in need. Since October 2023, CARE International in Lebanon has been distributing food and water to displaced people. CARE is now looking to scale up the response, by also providing non-food items such as hygiene kits and pillows, mattresses, and blankets to displaced women, men, and children. #Lebanon https://ab.co/3TIPOxz

Of the $1 billion in Australian aid to Ukraine, military assistance exceeds humanitarian aid almost 10 to one. CARE Australia recently presented a submission to the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee Inquiry into Australian support for Ukraine. The submission highlighted just how much government military assistance dwarfs humanitarian response, and called on the Australian government to deliver a multi-year humanitarian aid and resilience package for Ukraine. We welcome the recommendation from the Inquiry for the Australian government to urgently make new commitments for humanitarian assistance for Ukraine as part of a comprehensive, multi-year strategy. More than 2 years on from the advent of the war, roughly 14 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. So far, CARE has reached more than 1.2 million people in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, with cash, food, water, shelter, access to schools, and safe spaces for women and girls, but more needs to be done.
