At Central Coast Local Health District, our vision is Trusted care. Better health for everyone. ALICE_All Inclusive Care for Older People is an example of this vision. In collaboration with the Central Coast Research Institute, Hunter New England Central Coast Primary Health Network, Central Coast Council and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development the ALICE project is beginning to take shape to support our Older People of the Central Coast. Nick Goodwin has recently shared more information around the development of this project and what it is hoped can achieved. #TrustedCare #Betterhealthforeveryone #enrichinghealthinmillionsofways
Director, Central Coast Research Institute, College of Health Medicine & Wellbeing, University of Newcastle
ALICE _ All Inclusive Care for Older People For the past 2 years, and starting as a translational research project of the Central Coast Research Institute, we have been working for Central Coast Local Health District, Hunter New England Primary Health Network, Central Coast Council and the Department of Regional New South Wales to establish the value case for ALICE. Now with pilot funding from the PHN, and support from a wide range of community and consumer stakeholders on the Coast _ not least our wonderful residents and members of the Long Jetty Over 50s Club _ the ALICE program is beginning to take shape. Our animation below explains the nature of what we are trying to achieve for our older residents on the Coast, not least to raise to the initial challenge given to us by them at our first co-design meeting _ that older people are "screamingly lonely", do not know where to turn for trusted information and advice about the issues that help them keep healthy and well, and find health and care services complex, hard to navigate and costly. ALICE is by no means the answer to all things, but in all of our community consultations so far its core message hits home. There's a reason why older people in Australia have _ on average _ the most number of years living in chronic ill health in later life of high-income countries, and it is incumbent on all of those with a public service mindset to try and find the simple solutions that can bring people together and make a difference. As we progress on ALICE's journey, I hope to provide more updates as we go.
