Did you answer our poll last week? 📊 If you chose 'design and planning,' then you’re correct! ✅ According to Green Building Council of Australia, around 80% of a building’s whole-life carbon emissions are determined during the early planning to construction stages. In a typical new building, this represents close to a quarter of the building’s lifetime emissions. This is why incorporating sustainability considerations from the outset is crucial for achieving meaningful carbon reductions across a building’s entire lifecycle. #WholeLifeCarbon #NetZero #SustainableDesign #CarbonReduction #BuiltEnvironment
Whole Life Carbon (WLC) is crucial for reducing environmental impact, but did you know that the level of impact varies depending on the project stage? 🌍 From design to end-of-life, each phase has unique opportunities for carbon reduction. Which phase do you think offers the most potential? Vote below and share your thoughts!

🚨 Big news for the UK! The first-ever UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (Pilot Version) is now live! For the first time, there's a single, industry-backed standard to define what ‘net zero carbon’ means for UK buildings. This free-to-access standard empowers anyone looking to fund, design, or verify net zero carbon buildings to prove alignment with the UK’s carbon and energy budgets. The standard is applicable to: ➡️ homes, offices, schools, healthcare, sport and leisure, retail, hotel, commercial, residential, data centres, high education and more. The science-led standard provides a clear roadmap for truly sustainable building performance with ambitious yet achievable targets covering upfront carbon, operational energy, fossil fuel avoidance, renewables, and refrigerants. Kudos to the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) and all the founding members for making this a reality! #NetZero #Sustainability #BuiltEnvironment
🎉UKGBC is proud to be part of a cross-industry group that has developed the UK’s first standard for verifying buildings as #NetZero carbon! 🏢The #UKNetZeroCarbonBuildingsStandard Pilot Version provides a unified industry approach to defining net zero build assets. This report enables industry to robustly prove their built assets are net zero carbon and in line with our nation’s climate targets. Smith Mordak, Chief Executive of UK Green Building Council and UK NZCBS Governance Board member said: "I invite built environment practitioners from across the industry to implement the Standard on any buildings being designed, constructed, or operated, to ensure that the UK’s building stock decarbonises rapidly enough for the UK to stand a chance of keeping temperature rise to within the critical 1.5°C threshold.” We are proud to have worked with our fellow founder members: BRE ; Better Buildings Partnership ; CIBSE ; LETI ; RIBA ; RICS ; The Institution of Structural Engineers ; The Carbon Trust to create this monumental report that will help shape the future of #NetZero in the built environment. 📄Download your copy of the #UKNZCBS Pilot Version: https://lnkd.in/eqZm4Ni4 Register to attend the UKNZCBS launch webinar on the 31st October here: https://lnkd.in/ezxuE8i5 🖱Read more on our thoughts here: https://lnkd.in/ezm2tinq
