Another week another AI event in Brisbane 🎉 This time by AIIA on Adoption of AI in the Public Sector. As always, it was great to hear what people are doing in the space and the lessons they’re learning: David Preston from Queensland Department of Education is facing some interesting use cases from students trialling Copilot. You can probably imagine some of the creative ways that school students try to jailbreak it 🙃 Marco Fahmi from the AI Unit in the Queensland Government Customer and Digital Group reminding us that the AI conversation always becomes a data conversation. Issues like data security, access, and quality are only being amplified by AI, and different departments need to consider their risk appetite depending on the types of data they store. It's not just structured data, but unstructured - a lot of organisations are carrying around an information management debt. 💼 I liked the way Lisa Green from Telstra summed up the current attention on AI: previously AI didn’t have a “face”, whereas now that face is very publicly in the hands of consumers and workers with the plethora of GenAI tools we’re all seeing. She also had a great point that to truly scale AI usage, policies and processes aren’t enough – organisations need tools. Training is important, and it’s also useful to make it difficult for users to do the wrong thing, and easy for them to do the right thing. 🔐 Kelvin Ross from KJR & QLD AI Hub lit up when talking about how AI is already transforming healthcare, and its potential to improve all our lives.
