About us

We are a local government authority that provides an eclectic mix of services, facilities and events to local residents, businesses, Perth-based visitors and the tourism market. Fremantle as a city is celebrated for its well-preserved architectural heritage, beaches, boutique shopping and established cafe and pub culture, and is considered to be Perth’s second city and the unofficial arts and culture capital of Western Australia. As a government organisation employing over 400 staff, we serve the suburbs of Beaconsfield, Fremantle, Hilton, North Fremantle, O’Connor, Samson, South Fremantle and White Gum Valley; all located approximately 20km south of the Perth CBD. We have a strong focus on arts and culture and manage the iconic Fremantle Arts Centre and world-renowned festivals including Australia’s oldest festival, the Fremantle Festival. We are committed to sustainable practices and were recognised as WA’s first carbon neutral council in 2009 and as an international One Planet Council in 2015. The six-month program gives young people the opportunity to be engaged, included and advocated for in council decision making processes, as highlighted in both our Strategic Community Plan and Youth Strategy. We are excited to see the outcomes this passionate group can drive during their time here as ChangeMakers. #freoyouth #changemakers #cityoffremantle
