About us
The City of Canning (City) is located in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs, about 10 kilometres from the Perth CBD and covers a total of 65km2. The City is made up of Bentley, Cannington, East Cannington, Ferndale, Lynwood, Parkwood, Queens Park, Riverton, Rossmoyne, Shelley, Welshpool, Willetton, Wilson and parts of the suburbs of St James, Canning Vale and Leeming. Canning has 90,184 residents (2016 Census Australian Bureau of Statistics), which is predicted to increase to 119,993 by 2031. The City of Canning recognises the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands in Canning. Europeans settled in this region from 1829, working in industries such as farming, market gardening and timber milling. The City of Canning is partnering with Summation to develop a pilot Eco-Audit program for Canning small businesses, and are inviting Canning small businesses employing up to 20 people to participate in this FREE program. ' Summation will conduct an audit of your business and provide you with a report outlining opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption, and improve waste management practises. You will also be invited to attend a workshop with Summation following the completion of the eco-audits, allowing you to ask questions and seek further advice on the recommendations provided. To register your interest please email sustainability@canning.wa.gov.au with your full name, business name and contact number with the subject line ‘Commercial Eco-Audit pilot program’ and our team will be in touch with further information. With renovations completed, the stunning new Prendwick Pavilion was officially opened on Tuesday October 8 by Mayor Patrick Hall, Deputy Mayor Amanda Spencer-Teo, Councillor Shen Sekhon and Councillor Paul Tucek. These brand-new clubrooms feature: ✔️ Improved changerooms with showers and toilet facilities for seasonal sports groups ✔️ Improved accessible and inclusive facilities for sports participants and spectators ✔️ More storage space for sports groups ✔️ Indoor social gathering space with full viewing of the playing field ✔️ Improved kitchen / kiosk area, now with greater functionality Come check out the fantastic new Prendwick Pavillion and join us in celebrating this incredible space for our local community! Green light for Queens Park Open Space! A huge milestone was reached recently, as the tender for the Queens Park Open Space construction was approved by Council and awarded to Phase3 Landscape Construction Pty Ltd. @phasethreelandscaping Construction is due to get underway in November for this exciting project which will include upgrades to Maniana Park, the construction of a new carpark on Whitlock Road, improvements to the bushland walk trail and the formalising of the Wharf Street carpark. The long-term vision for the area is to improve connectivity with the recently developed Sam Kerr Football Centre, creating a vibrant sporting and community precinct This project has been made possible with the Australian Government contributing $5.3 million through the Priority Community Infrastructure Program.
