The demand for sustainable commodities in China is growing... COFCO signs 1.5million tonne Brazil-China sustainable soybean trade agreement. COFCO International, Modern Farming Group and China Shengmu Organic Milk (both subsidiaries of Mengniu Group) have signed an agreement on 2nd February to supply 1.5 million tonnes of certificated sustainable soybeans from Brazil to China over the next five years.   This agreement sends a clear signal that the demand for sustainable commodities in China is growing, and that it is possible to decouple the production of commodities from deforestation – an important message ahead of this year’s climate COP, which will be held in the Amazon.   The Tropical Forest Alliance was represented at the signing ceremony at COFCO International’s new Santos export terminal, attended by the port representative from the city of Santos, senior leaders from Modern Farming, Shengmu, COFCO. This strategic cooperation builds on previous shipments to China developed as part of the World Economic Forum’s Green Value Chain Taskforce, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Taskforce’s companies to create DCF value chains in leading producer and consumer countries.
