We cannot risk having nutrition neglect in early childhood education and care. Dietitians Australia is loudly calling for the Federal Government to urgently overhaul the food and nutrition standards and supporting guidance within the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care. And to embed the support of dietitians, on the ground, within the sector. ‘Our current system is failing the services and the parents,’ says Dr Fiona Willer AdvAPD, Dietitians Australia president. Australians must be supported with affordable access to dietitians, if they are being prescribed weight loss medication. We’re calling for any prescription of these medications to be coupled with a referral to a dietitian. This is absolutely critical to ensure safe and effective #nutrition support. ‘We must remember both malnutrition and eating disorders can be life threatening, and this is why dietitians must be engaged to ensure people do not develop restrictive eating behaviours and become malnourished as a result of being on these medications,’ says Dr Fiona Willer, Dietitians Australia President.
