Last Thursday, our Queensland team joined over 200 people at this year’s Walk for Mental Fitness. This successful event is raising awareness and smashing the stigma around mental health. The theme, “Safer, Stronger, Together,” was a positive reminder of the strength we can find in supporting our family, friends and colleagues towards mental fitness. A special highlight was hearing from Olympic medallist Brooke Hanson, who inspired us with her story of resilience through mental health challenges, reminding us of the power of vulnerability and speaking up. At Diona’s “Power of Your Voice” station, hosted in partnership with batyr, we delved into the importance of mental health in the workplace. Through shared stories, practical advice, and group activities, we explored how a small check-in or a simple conversation can make a big difference to someone who is going through a difficult time. At Diona, we’re committed to fostering a supportive environment, encouraging employees to look out for one another. Together, we’re stronger, and together, we can create a culture that supports everyone’s mental fitness. Thank you to everyone who participated in this meaningful event! #MentalHealth #SaferStrongerTogether #Diona #EnablingCommunitiestoThrive #CommunitySupport #UrbanUtilities

🎉 We’re excited to share that Diona's Water North Zones Program team has been recognised in four out of five categories in Urban Utilities' Crew of the Quarter Awards, highlighting our commitment to excellence in customer care, safety, environmental leadership, and innovation. 🏆 Customer Care Award: Francy Betancourt (WP17.1 Rode Road, Chermside) was recognised for her proactive engagement with business clients to minimise disruptions and maintain strong relationships, reflecting Diona’s customer-centric approach. 🏆 Safety First Award: John McCusker (WP017 Water Main Replacement) led his crew in going above and beyond with extra safety measures, ensuring pedestrian and commuter safety in high-traffic areas. 🏆 Environmental Leader Award: Jesse Ottaway (WP012 Esk Reservoir) showed leadership in environmental care by donating Eucalyptus branches cleared from the Esk Reservoir project to Somerset Sanctuary, a local wildlife rescue. This initiative supported the rehabilitation of local wildlife, such as wallabies and possums, reinforcing our commitment to protecting the environment for future generations. 🏆 Innovator Award 1: Joe Vuletich, working with our valued Aboriginal-owned partner Girri Birrang, proposed an innovative solution to reuse rock boulders at the Esk Reservoir project for erosion control and drainage. This idea eliminated site waste, reduced costs, and supported environmental sustainability. 🏆 Innovator Award 2: Diona’s Engagement and Project Team were recognised for their creativity and community engagement efforts at the May 2024 Esk Show. The team brought an excavator to the event, which was a huge success, delighting both children and adults. This interactive experience allowed the community to learn more about the Esk Reservoir project while fostering a positive connection with Diona and Urban Utilities. Graeme Hall, Program Director, said: "These awards are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our teams, who continually strive to deliver excellence across every aspect of our projects. I am incredibly proud of their achievements and the recognition from Urban Utilities, which highlights our commitment to safety, innovation, and building strong relationships with the communities we serve." Well done and congratulations to all our winners! We look forward to continuing our work delivering safe, sustainable, and community-focused infrastructure solutions. We're thrilled to announce that together with SA Water , we’ve been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2024 Australian Water Association Water Awards South Australia in the Infrastructure Project Innovation - Regional category. This recognition highlights our innovative work on the DT-01 Victor Harbor Road Duplication - Myponga Trunk Main Replacement project. The Myponga Trunk Main Replacement Project set a new standard in the water industry. Tasked with relocating a 900 millimetre diameter trunk water main, the McConnell Dowell Diona Joint Venture (MDJV) partnered with SA Water to deliver this project with minimal disruption to the local community. Traditionally, such operations require shutting down and draining the main, requiring a temporary water outage. However, in collaboration with design partner WSP, the SA Water and MDJV teams engineered an innovative solution that used line stops and live tapping technology—methods typically used in the oil and gas sectors but applied here for the first time in South Australia on an asset of this size. The successful installation involved a Horizontal Directional Drill under the highway and testing of two new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) 710 millimetre diameter trunk mains, whilst the existing main remained online. Live taps were performed to seamlessly integrate the new mains, allowing the old main to be decommissioned. This innovative approach resulted in several benefits: • no water supply disruptions for residents, businesses or other critical services • reduced water wastage where possible • confined works to a 150-metre section • minimised open trench construction—preserving the cultural and environmental value of the land and limiting traffic disruptions on a key arterial road. This project exemplifies how techniques from other industries can be adapted to tackle the complex challenges of the water sector, achieving outstanding outcomes for SA Water, the community and the broader industry. Award winners will be announced in November! Good luck to the team in SA! #WaterIndustry #Innovation #Sustainability #Infrastructure #MDJV #Diona #AWAWaterAwards #Awards

We’re excited to share the latest updates on our Cameron Park Reservoir project, where our collaboration with Hunter Water is driving enhanced water resources for the community. WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING? We’ve achieved a significant milestone with the installation of the 26-metre diameter roof, which is centrally supported by a single column to meet Hunter Water's chlorine mixing requirements. The roof and stair tower structures, weighing just under 20 tonnes, were assembled using a 60-tonne crane and electric boom lifts. BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS Considerable effort has gone into reaching this stage, including: Directional Drilling: Completion of two major directional drills, installing DN 450 and DN 180 HDPE pipes with minimal environmental impact. Water Mains Installation: Laying 1280 metres of DN 560 HDPE bidirectional water mains along the access road, integrating critical components such as Scour and Air Valve Tees for a fully operational water network. 50 meters of DN250 HDPE has been installed connecting the Cameron Grove lead in main. Concrete Works: Pouring approximately 150 cubic metres of concrete for the reservoir base, engineered for long-term durability. Reservoir Walls: Construction of the reservoir walls in 2.4-metre-high segments, culminating in a final 2.5-metre segment, reaching a total height of 7.3 metres. Each segment used around 60 cubic metres of concrete, creating a structure built to last. LOOKING FORWARD As we move closer to completing the reservoir, pump station, and associated pipework, our focus will shift to finalising stormwater systems, electrical installations, site remediation, and commissioning. It won’t be long before the reservoir goes online, securing future water supply for the communities of West Wallsend and Cameron Park. OUR COMMITMENT Every step of this project is taken with an eye on sustainability and efficiency. Our construction methods like horizontal directional drilling keep our environmental footprint small, proving that big projects don't have to mean big impacts. We’re proud of the progress made so far and look forward to sharing more as we continue to build a better future for Cameron Park. #enablingcommunitiestothrive #sustainablewaterinfrastructure #diona #WaterInfrastructure #CommunityDevelopment

R U OK? Day, an important reminder to check in with those around us —family, friends, and colleagues, and take the time to genuinely listen, offer support, and strengthen our connections. When we invest more quality time in the people around us, we not only build stronger relationships but also become more attuned to the signs that someone might be struggling. A meaningful conversation can make all the difference! Well done to the Diona and SRG Global teams on raising awareness of mental health during R U Ok? Day. #wecareforpeopleswellbeing

We are honoured to have contributed to the commemoration of the Sunnyside Mill workers who enlisted in World War II. Well done to Central Highlands Water, the Mount Pleasant History Group, Ballarat Regional Trades & Labour Council, Ballarat RSL, and the City of Ballarat for collaborating on this wonderful initiative to preserve the memories and history of this location and recognise the people who served and sacrificed for our future.
We were humbled to gather alongside the Sunnyside Mill on Saturday to unveil a commemorative plaque and tree avenue honouring mill workers who enlisted in World War II. This event was the result of a great deal of research and collaboration between Mount Pleasant History Group, Ballarat Regional Trades & Labour Council, Ballarat RSL, City of Ballarat, Diona and Central Highlands Water. We greatly appreciate the willingness of these groups, and the community, who worked with us as we removed two trees at the site to make way for our major infrastructure project, the Ballarat Sewer Build. Together we’ve been able to replace those trees, plus add three more, to complete this avenue. We commend those parties who explored the history of the Sunnyside Mill enlistees to enable us to recognise their commitment and sacrifice. It’s heartening for us, to have been involved in this project that also enables us all to remember the past. #BallaratSewerBuild # AdvancingOurRegion #CommunityValue
