Our people have again done Queensland proud; pulling off the biggest post-disaster power restoration in the state's history in just 11 days. #cyclonealfred
🌀 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱: 𝗘𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝟭𝟭-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝟱𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 🌀 It’s been the biggest post-disaster power restoration in Queensland's history: Cyclone Alfred impacted supply to 500,000 properties; leaving 1600 powerlines on the deck, prompting 9000km of line patrols by thousands of our people, who repaired and rebuilt 135km of the network over 11 monster days and nights. On Sunday night – just a week after the peak of nearly 375,000 properties in the dark – power was reinstated to every property that could be safely resupplied, right across Alfred’s vast strike zone. The sheer scale and scope of the restoration was immense. The once-in-a-generation low-pressure system pounded Brisbane, the bay islands, Glitter Strip, the ranges and hinterlands with powerful winds and torrential rain. Homes and businesses from the southern Sunshine Coast to the NSW border; from Point Lookout to the Lockyer Valley had their power interrupted – that’s an area more than 150km north to south, and the same east to west. Thousands of our frontline field staff, backed by a behind the scenes support army, were joined by big contingents from Ergon Energy Network - cyclone-hardened North Queenslanders who had just finalised Ingham’s flood response, along with hundreds of regional teams from as far away as Hughenden and Roma. It’s been an epic few weeks, and we wrapped up Alfred’s restoration very tired, immensely proud and endlessly humbled. We saw extraordinary graciousness and patience, kindness and tenacity from hundreds of thousands of Queenslanders who were enduring the shock and unfamiliarity of a SEQ cyclone; many struggling with vulnerable family members, some with damage to their homes, and pretty much all without power for long, long days and nights. So, thank you, SEQ, for the waves and friendly horn-toots; for the home-baked biscuits and the surprise delivery of pizzas to crews far from home; for the “You BEWDY!” social posts tagging our troops; for offers to help wash and dry soaked field uniforms and sodden boots; for the handmade cards and poems, and even a song. You kept us focused on why we do this, and who we do it for. Thank you for keeping the faith.
